IMO GDI turbo engines may be new junk engines surpassed 1980s designs. IMO engine with fuel injection going down intake above valves don’t have severe carbon build up due to valves getting sprayed by fuel mist going to combustion chambers.

This Is My opinion I would not skimp on oil changes intervals with GDI (direct injected) engine especially With turbo which generates more heat and pressure on top piston ring groove.

IMO 2017 vehicle not that old to have major engine damage (but don’t know history?). By all slug buildup IMO looks like oil change intervals was too long? This all my opinion others may have different opinion which will probably not change mine.

Have been driving 50 years. Never had an oil change before the recommended change. Never had an engine problem including oil burning. Dealers have a good mark up on oil changes and like to see cars come in(they will find other problems). Why would anyone want to get oil changed earlier than the length the manufacturer recommends unless they are doing things like pulling a trailer?

Do what you want , nobody forcing anything on you. There are certain driving conditions the would be good idea to change oil more frequently. But, you know what doing. Lot people been driving for decades and most trade ever 3 years or less. A yugo probably last 3 years if done nothing? Well, maybe not Yugo??? It’s usually second or third owners that experience problems from lack of preventative maintenance for previous owners, why most that have clue look at maintenance records on used vehicles.

Sometimes use trumps age or mileage. It’s all about the breakdown and viscosity. Where you drive and how hard you drive matters.

I would like to think that and in pass worked. I have little faith in small turbo direct injected engines. One thing it’s not brand specific. Other brands have Hugh problems also. IMO only thing person can do is keep close eye on oil. For ones that watch video that owns Direct injected engines I hope they will look more closely at condition of oil. IMO thats where it start and only thing person can easily control?

Or there is city driving compared to long highway miles. Further, the mountainous areas verses the flat roads of Kansas. The tachometer often tells the story more so than any odometer.
