I was under the assumption it was Martin Luther's German Bible that was used.

It is called the Apocalypse in my Catholic Bible but I think has the same words as yours...starting out..

"The revelation of Jesus Christ which God gave him, to make known to his servants the things that must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified them through his angel to his servant John who was witness to the the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ to whatever he saw. Blessed is he who reads and hears these words."

Does that sound pretty much the same? The book is about the ending of the world as we know it.

I am a Christian but just have some problems with understanding people who say that everything in The Bible is true. Did the Gospel writers ALL have perfect memories, were all literate, unbiased observers of the actions and words of Jesus? Even with modern technology like camcorders four different writers would have slightly different takes on what was said.

I do see Jesus Christ as our savior but it is a leap of faith and I sincerely doubt if any of the writers of the Bible did not have agendas of their own.

Do you also believe in the Holy Spirit?

I believe that God created Heaven and Earth and everything in it, and if He is capable of all of the amazing things we are surrounded by, why is it difficult to believe that He could inspire men to write the stories the way He wanted them to be written? I do not believe that The King James Bible is the only accurate translation, but I do believe that since God made the Penguins, I think He could manage to lead them to the Ark, that is if they needed to be in the Ark in the first place.

These were names common in King James era and so they were used in that version of the Bible.

Sophie, most people who call themselves Christians also believe in the Trinity; The Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Catholics are Christians and so are Baptists, Anglicans, Episcopalians, Methodists, Lutherans, and any number of protestants sects, Jewish people are waiting for the Messiah, but believe in the Old Testament.

I know that all of these things are stirring around in you. I know that you believe that only people who accept Christ will live forever. I think that only God can sort these things out and I have so many things to concern myself over and wouldn't do a good job running the universe that I just concede that worry to someone else, someone greater than me.

I think my business, when it comes to religion is to find good in people and affirm it. I don't always do that and I get side tracked and get all worked up about how things are going. I get into discussions and heated debates and throw words out that hurt.

Sometimes I find things that just amaze me and I think of them as sort of a sign. Yesterday a student had his backpack hit during that shooting in Tallahassee. The bullet lodged harmlessly in his theology book.

You have to know that there are not going to be any conversions here.;)

Actually there were several Church Bibles that were used in the writing of the King James version, including the Latin Vulgate, The Bishop's bible, and several German translations (which were translations of earlier Bibles).

My point was that the King James Bible was a Re-Write of several earlier Bibles and not a new translation of the original manuscripts. I stand by what i said. I'll trust a Bible which was taken from the original Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic.

And NO i don't believe the world is only 6000 years old. But then, I don't believe it's 4.5 Billion years old either. Like many things, i think the answer lies somewhere in-between.

Religion is a very personal belief.

People have very different personalities. How could Adolf Hitler cause all of those people to believe he was right?

I think that science will prove someday that we were born with a certain personality that can't be changed much. I don't know what that will mean as far as how we look at others. Some people are born sociopathic and they don't really CARE a drop for anyone else. Sociopaths are those who kill and steal and hurt. Will they someday be identified as infants? What then? Is sociopathy a spectrum disorder? Do some people have less empathy because they are born that way? I think religion is needed for some people to have a moral compass, but what if they don't care what is right or wrong, that they aren't programed to care about anything but their own needs? I am glad I am guilt ridden and care about other people and worry about stuff.

I think, as confusing as our life now is, I am glad I was born at this time.
