The outage yesterday was caused by a fiber cut and impacted most of central/southern Florida. It didn't matter what modem you had, you were going to be out.

At $14/month, you can pay for a new modem within 3-4 months (6-8 if you go high end). Just make sure it's the latest DOCSIS supported by Xfinity (I think it's still at 3.0), and look at the Channel Bonding. The more channels available, the more speed supported by the modem. It's usually stated as 16x4, 32x8, etc. The first number is downstream (download) channels, and the 2nd is upstream channels. The newest modems generally support 32x8. If you're not paying for 1GB internet, you don't need the 32x8, but it doesn't hurt.

Technically speaking I will take your word because it sounds like you know what you are talking about.

Actual experience is as I stated. Since I got the xFi modem I have had no outages or buffering until yesterday which was a cut cable. So if this was Let’s Make A Deal I’ll take Door #2 Monte for the Xfinity Modem @ $14.00 a month complete with no headaches like there was with the top drawer Motorola Unit. When I sit to use the computer or to stream a television show that’s all I want. I don’t want to be on the Geek Squad. I’m happy with my setup.

Yes, we were down yesterday in Hadley. Ours resumed about 8:45. We also have mobile service with them and they spent 1 1/2 hours trying to help me connect into a mobile hotspot before “dropping” my call. 10 hotspots within 353 feet of my home and they couldn’t help me connect. Argh!!!

Unscrew the one black cord that connects in the back. When you plug it back in it might reboot. But call them first and they’ll send you a signal which might refresh your internet. It never works for us, but that’s how you are supposed to do it. Good luck!

Alternative

T-mobile 5G Internet $50 without a cellular contract, $40 with a cell contract. Give it a try cancel anytime. I had Xfinity and T-mobile for a month and a half at the same time. Then I cancelled Xfinity. I also cut the cord and went with U-Tube TV as my main TV provider, with Prime, BritBox, and Netflix as supplements. Been happy with the savings

I'm a little confused by your post. You seem to argue against network-based security products yet you have your ezviz cameras. Are you saying you want to get rid of those cameras?

Internet problems happen, as do electrical problems and cell phone tower problems. I have had Xfinity for about two years now and this is the first outage that I can remember. Four (or seven or eight) hours of downtime out of at least 17,000 hours of uptime seems pretty good to me.

My home security systems continued to monitor my house even though they couldn't reach the internet. When I arrived back home I was able to check their status and history. When the xfinity problem was resolved they uploaded the information as normal. All my devices worked reliably during the outage, they just couldn't be accessed remotely.

Some people could not reach their smart thermostats. That doesn't mean their house went without air conditioning, it just meant they couldn't adjust the temperature while they were away. I couldn't adjust my temperature while I was away either; that's because I (along with many others) don't have smart thermostats. The difference between me and those with the smart thermostats is they eventually regained remote access that I still don't have.

Xfinity's mobile phone works over the Verizon network. It may have a preference for wi-fi when it is within range of an xfinity hotspot but otherwise it talks to the same network as your Verizon phone. My AT&T phone also connects to wi-fi when it is available - I simply disabled that feature yesterday.

Our xfinity was down too. We have Verizon phones. We could phone and text but I could not hot spot from the phone nor could I use the internet on the phone itself as I was getting a message that Safari was unavailable. I really could not understand that?

Check availability first.
It is still not available in our area.
I plan to switch to it as soon as available.

Yes, about two weeks, losing internet connection once a day or so. I reboot and fixes the issue but it's a pain it has to happen at all. Went through this a year or so ago and it got corrected and now it's happening again. I actually called Xfinity to discuss renewal rate this morning. As I'd thought about streaming, I asked what the internet rate is and it's $99 plus a rental box fee. (whatever that means)...so it wasn't much more to keep my current plan with their one year contract. We'll see how it all rolls.

You are being "managed".
Xfinity "Basic " internet is $25 @ Mo "funding source required; and "paperless account management"".
That gets you 60 Meg bandwidth, and 1.2Terra Byte ceiling.
Go to their physical store, INSIST on "Basic Internet only"..and "downgrade" to Basic internet.
Have had this for over a year and is totally adequate for multiple streaming feeds.
We have 4 computers, 12 Ip cameras, 2 Tablos, 2 cellphones and multiple Tvs using the connection fulltime.
Absolutley no bandwidth problems.

Happened yesterday afternoon till about 7pm last night. This was the first time with issue like this with Comcast. Back when we had Dish, Direct we had issues frequently during stormy season and that is why we switched.

Stu from NYC 04-26-2022 02:02 PM

When it first happened thought it was our modem so did the connection trick twice and rebooted computer to no avail.

Than a friend suggested googling outage florida and thats how we knew we were out of business for some time

Babubhat 04-26-2022 02:13 PM

My text message arrived 12 hours after service restored. So helpful

WingedFoot78 04-26-2022 02:28 PM

My connection went down for a while yesterday. I have a hot spot to use in our RV so I turned it on for about an hour or two until Comcast came back on. Contacting Comcast on the phone sucks. Getting a human to speak to is almost impossible.
