Actually, the same thing that would threaten me anywhere else. Hopefully you will NEVER need it but it certainly would be better to have if ever needed - here or anywhere else.

Traveled 27 states in the last two years. My car has been surrounded many times by people wanting money (of course for gas or???) MY gun never leaves the car very often. But its there if I want to put in my pocket when the need arises. I haven't shot anyone yet. But if it comes down to me or them, I'll try to make sure it is them.
This is hard times outside the BUBBLE and people are desperate. Turn on the real news not the BUBBLE paper.

Please keep this thread on getting a permit and how to get a permit. Let's not stray from the OP. If you want additional information on classes, lessons or anything else related to firearms, PM me.

No, I do this as a help for Villagers only.

That's great that you offer this at no charge to villagers.

Is a license in one stae transferable if you move to another state?

You're certainly correct...unfortunately not everyone agrees. I've seen posts here by folks who DO carry in TV......just not the place for it....that's all I'm saying.

Is it fair to say that you don't believe than anyone needs to carry a gun?

No, I believe that as long as proper training is received and the state allows it, we all have the right to bare arms. I only question the need to carry a gun in TV. The atmosphere is not conducive to a possible "hot head" and drinking. I don't like the idea of someone sitting next to me in a restaurant or bar and possibly be armed. If you're going to Orlando or Tampa for the day and it makes you feel safer......take it with. This is a retirement community and the need for a weapon just doesn't exist.

This is a small paragraph from the article that was posted earlier from the University of Pensylvania and I believe this to be very true.

While it may be that the type of people who carry firearms are simply more likely to get shot, it may be that guns give a sense of empowerment that causes carriers to overreact in tense situations, or encourages them to visit neighbourhoods they probably shouldn't, Branas speculates. Supporters of the Second Amendment shouldn't worry that the right to bear arms is under threat, however. "We don't have an answer as to whether guns are protective or perilous," Branas says. "This study is a beginning."

For those of you with out of state conceal carry permits. Once you become a Florida resident your out of state permit is not valid. If you are from a state that Florida recognizes and honors their permit, once you get a Florida Drivers License and become a permanent resident, your past home state permit is invalid. You need to get a resident Florida permit.

Your old perment can be used to obtain a Florida permit as it proves that you have had firearms training (?), along with some other prove as stated in the concealed carry statute, that you have had firearm training. That statement may or may not be valid, as some states have no training requirement what so ever. Florida also issues a non-resident Florida license, but you have to becareful as most states do not recognize a non-resident issued permit, most states require that you be a resident of the issuing state before they will recognize it.

Florida's permit is currently recognized by 35 other states, if you are a resident of Florida. Most of the 35 states do NOT recognize the permit if it is issued to a non-resident. So be sure that you know which states will recognize resident and/or non-resident permits from Florida before you travel out of Florida.

If you have specific questions PM with the question and I will direct you to the correct place to find the correct information.

Sorry, but I don't feel any sense of empowerment and I especially would not go visit neighborhoods were I "shouldn't!"

The people that I know with a permit to carry are never out there looking for trouble. On the contrary, most would do almost anything to avoid it.

It is fair to say that I do not believe any private citizen needs to carry a gun while in The Villages.

The only incidents I remember in the past 3 years (since I lived here) involving guns in The Villages were two times that citizens flashed their concealed weapons in an aggressive manner at other people. Both of these resulted in the person being arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Both had permits to carry a concealed weapon. The one other time was a domestic dispute where the wife shot her husband and created a several hour standoff with the police.

But, this thread is not about reasons to carry or not to carry. It is a person's right to own guns and to carry them if they have a permit.
