Default Coronavirus tests were delayed by contamination at CDC lab, report says

CNBC article by Dan Mangan

A delay by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in quickly making coronavirus test kits available was the result of “a glaring scientific breakdown” at the CDA central lab, The Washington Post reported.

The Post reported that CDC facilities that assembled the testing kits “violated sound manufacturing practices, resulting in contamination of one of the three test components used in the highly sensitive detection process.”

James Le Duc, a virologist and former CDC officer who now heads the Galveston National Laboratory in Texas, told The Post that the situation was “really a terrible black mark on the CDC, and the impact was devastating to the country.”

I posted this yesterday with link to Washington Post article. Moderators told me it was deleted because link was to a subscription only source. I don't have subscription to WAPO and the link works fine for me, full article is there. There is a link to the WAPO article at the bottom of the CNBC link posted above. That link also works fine.

Interview with Dr Fauci

"It was a complicated series of multiple things that conflated that just, you know, went the wrong way. One of them was a technical glitch that slowed things down in the beginning. Nobody’s fault. There wasn’t any bad guys there. It just happened Fauci said.

"Was the glitch or anything about the production of the test President Trump’s fault?" Hewitt responded. "Or actually, let me put it more broadly, would every president have run into the same problem?"

"Oh, absolutely," Fauci replied. "This has nothing to do with anybody’s fault, certainly not the president’s fault."

Thanks, I turn my adblocker off depends what I'm searching. People should try and read the original WAPO report, it's quite detailed and thorough. I have seen a lot of wild accusations here attempting to attach blame for delay in covid 19 tests, the article lays out the facts.

I can't read the story either. If it's about the contaminant in the negative controls, this has been known since the day the CDC kits came out. If your negative control comes out positive, the entire run of tests is ruined. The story behind it is probably interesting, but it's somewhat old news, maybe that's why it's not generating a lot of interest.
