I'm amazed.
Two remarkable events in the news yesterday:
1. A jury in Colorado rejected an insanity defense and found the shooter in the movie theater massacre guilty on all charges. THey held him accountable for his actions despite any mental illness he may be suffering from.
2. Another episode of domestic terrorism here in our country involving a young Muslim man who attacked and killed members of our military.
And yet I see not a single comment regarding these events here on this site. What kind of a blog is this. What are our priorities?

I wish that we were allowed to talk about things like this openly on this forum.

With everyone called "guest" on the political forum you can't have any kind of discussion. I don't even try.

Is there a reason why you didn't post earlier? Why is it someone else's responsibility? I don't mean this as a attack I am responding to your last 3 sentences.

Perhaps we are all learning that we must tolerate things we cannot understand because questioning them might hurt someone's feelings.

Here are my thoughts. I am saddened and angry that four Marines were killed in cold blood. I also am very frightened of radical Islam.

I don't know HOW I feel about someone who is insane found guilty of murder. But he did murder a lot of people. And their families are grieving and he did badly injure many others. What should be done with the criminally insane people who are very dangerous to society?

Same thoughts here. I'm sure the topics would have eventually appeared.

Saw nothing last nite. Thought "well these are late breaking stories". Expected surely there will be some discussion in the AM. But nothing. Thus my post.

Regarding item 1, I don't see anything political in this at all. IMHO we have a problem in this country with people not being held responsible for their own actions and decisions. Everyone is a victim. Some one else or some other situation is always to blame.

Perhaps we could assign item 2 to the "political" arena. Then we'll have an excuse not to talk about it. Just keep our heads in the sand.
Better to talk about someone's dog pooping on an inappropriate place.

This was too vague for me to understand. Could you clarify a little?

These events should be discussed. Go to political forum. They are discussed in detail. Think moderators just put guest under each name so reporting of people doesn't get out of hand if you disagree with them. The current events today are very important! I am very upset as a mom and an american and can't imagine burying my marine son who earned the purple heart. Does it get any worse than that. My prayers go out to all the family members. Just heartbreaking

zonerboy: In my view one of the reasons is that people have received so much bad news this past few months many of them for their sanity retreated to a quiet place. We re-did our front room to what my wife calls the man cave. Today I call it the sanctuary room because i retreat there and watch Encore westerns, etc watch anything to get away from this new normal the people on The View and The Talk promote.

The second reason is that people who have been on this forum learned that current events turn into ugly battles with many of the trolls who visit this site.

Admin in a response to those who desire current events like yourself re-instituted the political forum /aka "Political Talk" with some caveats. There will be no usernames, no editing and no personal messaging. Why because the original Political Forum turned into a hate fest.

So contrary to your position I am surprised that the thread you started here still survives

Well, it's obvious that my original post failed to promote any discussion which was my intent. So perhaps the thread should just be dropped.
It's too bad we cannot discuss important issues in a reasonable and respectful manner. Listening to the opinions of others can be an enlightening experience.
Guess we'll just have to be satisfied with discussions about roundabouts and bad experiences at various restaurants.

It seems to me that if your intent was to promote discussion, you would have started out by discussing the events vs chastising others for not discussing the events.

Totally agree with TVC. If your intent was to start a reasonable discussion of important matters, you may want to reconsider your approach.
