Default Definitely NON-Villages thread!

I'm just busting with happiness right now. My mom's weekday home health aide, who she's had for the past year, just earned her citizenship papers this morning.

One more American who can speak three languages fluently (French, Creole, and English), and knows more about our country than most of us do.

So proud of her!

She's been living in the states for over 10 years. But the path to citizenship is SLOW even if you do everything right (she did everything right - she even passed the citizenship test on her first try, and many have to take it 2-3 times before they pass).

Yes….but she did it the right way, legally. Welcome to her and thanks to her for embracing our way of life

The sad thing is that most 20-somethings, who were born in the USA, would not be able to pass the citizenship exam. In our old hometown, they made U.S. History an elective in high school many years ago.

Congratulations! If you’ve ever been to a citizenship ceremony, you would cry. They are so elated to have attained something that some take for granted. In addition to all the hoops, they have to jump they have to pay $725 for the application. She deserves accolades.

I used to help host a welcome to the USA party in Pittsburgh after new citizens were sworn in, it was an awesome experience.
