Default DirectTV Service issue- Error 775 is trouble!

So we have DirectTV and got a 775 error message. Apparently the receiver and the dish are not talking to each other. Checked and re-seated all of the connections, checked the voltage, reset the receiver several times, did everything that we could do and were asked to do by the online DirectTV rep. The rep indicated that they would need to send out a service rep to fix the problem, and would charge us $50 and credit us for no service until the repair was completed. I asked if there was a problem with the equipment, why can't they just send us a new receiver which we can swap out and we would send the defective one back? The rep said that they would charge us $19 to send us the new receiver to cover the cost of shipping.

So wait I pointed out to him, I don't own the receiver, I am paying a monthly fee to rent it from them. So I asked why I have to pay them to either come and replace THEIR defective equipment or to ship a functioning receiver to me? (Funny, when I suggested that I would charge them $25 to send their receiver back to them to cover my cost of shipping, he didn't seem to like that idea). The rep then offered to sell me a service plan that I can then use to get this problem resolved. I am adamant that I am not going to pay them to fix their own equipment, especially for which I am paying a monthly rental fee.

Comcast Cable TV was bad (although admittedly we kept them for internet service as we are "stuck" there), and I am quickly souring on DirectTV. I had hoped that DirectTV would have the same customer service experience that AT&T U-Verse provides, but I was reading that U-Verse is going away and AT&T is focusing on DirectTV.

Time to research other options for service.

Thanks for reading my rant. Good luck to those of you with DirectTV that you don't see a 775 error message.........

Check your power inserter. Most of the time that's the problem, if not type directv error code 775 into google search they will walk you thru the problem. You can fix it yourself. I've had DirecTV for 17yrs its still the best and you can always diagnose the problems yourself. Good Luck Len

Thumbs down Loss of Channels

I am surprised there are not more complaints that as of today Direct TV has lost the rights to broadcast any NBC and CBS channels with FOX on the edge of going. Seems AT&T and Direct TV refused to pay for the rights of these channels and have lost the right to broadcast them. Now that is an issue for Direct TV users. Am considering going back to Comcast?

Husband is livid. Would like to hear from others on what is working for television.

Husband likes to watch local stations for a short while in morning.

Don't know about here, but we used to have Direct TV service. Their boxes failed on a regular basis, which we leased, and when identified as being the source of the problem the service charge was waived. Read your lease agreement for the box. They might have changed it to make you responsible for paying for the replacement of bad equipment, but I'd not think so. Also call the sales department and threaten to discontinue the service if they insist on you paying for the service associated with leased bad equipment.

We have Comcast service and so far have had two bad boxes and one of their bad supplied connections replaced for free. Our service is also not interrupted by bad thunder storms which used to be the case with Direct TV.

Out of all the services that are brought into a modern home we have found Direct TV to be the best of all over time. I am not going to throw away a long relationship with them over a few days of being without the main channels during the end of the NFL Football Season. They will work it out quickly, I'm almost certain? Damn this hurts. We really like WESH 2.

I had to reset the main box this morning. Truthfully I didn't get the error number. Working fine now. Good luck.

I'm watching CBS right now, no problem. NBC & ABC are out. This usually happens every few years during contract talks, the stations want more for their programing, the customers bitch about their bills, and we get 6 months of reruns every year.

Direct TV at our home too and NBC and ABC are off line on our TV too. To say I am annoyed is an under statement.

Thumbs down Lest iit is forgotten

It should not be forgotten that AT&T is the new player on the block as they bought Direct TV and now there is a major problem as customers are not respected.

I have loved Direct TV after Comcast, especially the quality of picture and the ease of recording programs. That said, this situation is frustrating and I hope is resolved soon. I am concerned that AT&T may do an extended show of power.

We had the local channels outage once before, maybe 5 years ago. It was resolved the next day. The real annoyance will be tonight when Green Bay and Detroit fans can't watch Sunday Night Football. Then tomorrow all the Gator fans will miss the Outback Bowl on ABC. The weird part is, ESPN is not effected and they are owned by ABC. So if they had left the Outback Bowl on ESPN we would still get the game, but they moved it to ABC so more people can watch, and now less people will watch.

I've been with Directv for almost 10 years and there are problems now and then, but before that I had Comcast and they were even worse. I also like NFL Sunday ticket, today I can watch my team play even though the game is not on here locally. For those looking for morning programing, try Fox 35. They are still on and provide much more local coverage in the morning.

Not only is it unavailable on our TVs, but the app won't let me watch ABC live on my iPad. Based on experiences people have with other providers, we'll stick with DirecTV. The problem will be resolved soon. Wonder if this is a national problem or just with Orlando stations.

Several weeks ago I had similar issues with our receiver. They said it needed to be replaced and wanted to charge me for shipping. I said that there was no way that I was going to play for shipping their equipment and they backed down and waved the cost. Once the new receiver came I was still having the same problem. I said I felt that they needed to send a service tech and they agreed but was going to charge me to do so. I said no way and that If they did not send the person for free that I was going to drop them. Again they backed down and sent the person for free. Come to find out, they found that the problem was not the receiver but on the equipment on the dich itself. Once they replaced it the system worked fine.

You can watch the Green Bay /Detroit Game on your iPad or computer. First log into your DirecTv account or the App. Then use the"NBC Sports" App and select DirecTv as your provider. You can then select the Game which is noted to start a 7PM (probably pre-game at 7). The block of NBC and ABC is only in certain markets so using the internet works. I also have "Apple TV" so I can "mirror" the internet stream from my iPad to my TV. Isn't technology a wonderful thing!!!!
