Default An "accidental" shooting?

A Georgia (it figures) police chief said his wife was accidentally shot with his service pistol. He said the Glock was in the bed with them and went off twice when he tried moving it. One bullet hit the wife. She is in critical condition.

Can any gun owners explain how this may have been an accident? Oh yeah, the police chief was also a certified instructor.

Not to cloud the already murky waters but she was his fourth marriage and twice to her.

Nothing says love like a Glock in bed. Must have been an accident. Twice.

Glocks I think are imported and has trigger safety. Several hundred people have been accidentally shot by these semi automatics. They are the weapon of choice if you can afford them due to the 17 plus rounds they pack. Basically if you or something puts too much pressure on the trigger it will go off.

Two year old kid recently shot her mother in Walmart. The baby got the pistol out of her purse and it went off and killed her mother. This was probably cheap light weight Saturday night special semi automatic that don't have safety. But usually has hard trigger pull. If your leaning towards gun ban these cheap handguns should of been outlawed 40 years ago. IMO they have kill more than any other weapon on the market. Being most are manufactured in the NE or Cala. Or imported through them states Liberal agenda can't have it both ways. They want the taxes and jobs but cry foul when gun Related deaths occur.

Bottom line is careless will kill sometimes no matter what the source that caused the death. In the case you brought up I sure they are investigating it.

it was no accident! you can roll around all night on it and it is not going to discharge.

I will allow that if he was sleeping with the pistol in his hand and trigger finger on the trigger.....MAYBE....a big maybe! As second shot.....there is no way!!!

He or someone else shot her....the most likely, believeable scenario!

In golf, if it takes two shots for you to get out of the same bunker, it is called a "Hitler."

A shot from one bunker into another is called a "Sadam Hussein."

If it was TWO shots, the probability is to the moon high that it was an accidential shooting. I thought I heard on the news though that the media originally stated it was two shots and it was later corrected to only ONE shot.

A Glock has only an internal safety trigger, meaning you have to place your finger directly on the center of the trigger and pull back, to fire off a round. If you try to pull the trigger from either "side" of the trigger, it will not fire. Glocks are also known for a fairly light trigger pull of 5.5 pounds. Seeing he was a police chief, he might have modified his trigger pull down even less, to say 3.5 pounds, which would improve shooting accuracy with less resistance. A lot of law enforcement and gun experts will add this modification. So yes, it is possible the gun could have discharged from grabbing it carelessly or even if a bed linen got wraped inside the trigger guard and was pulled the wrong way. Stranger things have happened and there have been many cases where law enforcement and the public have "accidentally" fired their Glock handgun. The overwhelming majority of the time it is due to human carelessness with the gun. Glocks are one of the most reliable (if respected) and durable handguns on the market, but one needs to take extra care and caution when owning a Glock because of the lack of a traditional external safety. I actually prefer my Springfield XD (similar material, construction, and capacity as a Glock) because in addition to a trigger safety, it has a squeeze handle safety. When two safeties are combined in conjunction with the firing of a shot, an accidential shooting would be much harder to achieve. Best rule of thumb...always keep your finger off the trigger until you plan on shooting the weapon! This would eliminate a lot of so called "accidents".

"He said in the call he had shot her twice — in the front and the back. A GBI spokeswoman said it was initially believe that Margaret McCollom, a nurse, was shot twice but she was actually shot only once."

McCollom told the 911 operator he had shot his wife twice, but the GBI said investigators determined she'd only been shot once.

Actually, in GA and many other southern states, gun safety is a priority and taught in many schools. I'm from MA but moved south after the blizzard of '78. I took a gun safety course in the early '70's and was one of a very few in the state with a handgun permit.

My son, as a sophomore in a southern prep school, took gun safety as a required course. Perhaps if those who make fun of the South did the same, there would be fewer accidents. I'd rather go hunting with a trained southerner than an untrained northerner.
