Dish is a satellite receiver..cable is just that..cable. They are not the same things. Virtually all cable companies get their programming from satellite. However..with dishes size DOES matter. Dish receivers at the cable company's head-end are very large. The smaller your dish, the more problems it will have with reception.Heavy storm? Yes, you'll have reception troubles with a consumer-sized dish.

The dish is a better predictor of impending rain, than the weather channel......evidenced by our sunny anD 70 degree temperature today....not!

It usually comes back very quickly unless there is a major storm and then you're usually wise to turn everything off anyway given the lightning here. I find it more of a minor inconvenience.

The Dish I had up north would go out and stay out for 3 days after the storm. The one here goes out and comes back in a matter of minutes.

Mine kept going out with even just rain. I switched back to cable. Costs more but at least I have it - much more reliable.

Been here for three years and have only lost the signal twice. Very happy with Direct TV. Can't say anything about Dish, I just know have any info about them.
