I suspect they are only allowing LSVs (NEV), which by definition are only electric, although I did not read whole article.

Correct. street-legal LSV's. Only electric, no gas, and Driver's License required. I had never heard of Whidbey or Langley, Wa. Langley is a Village on Whidbey Island, the largest of nine islands in Puget Sound. Not familiar with the area or the climate but it sounds like it could be chilly in a golf cart.

You don't have to go that far from home. Pinellas Park, FL just voted last week to allow golf carts on city streets.

No way, no how, not with all the crazy drivers we have around here. I don't have a death wish.

Heck, there's even a burg here in central OH that is now allowing carts on some of the streets, I believe - Bexley. From what I read of the regulations, it didn't seem to exclude gas carts. But it did require things like safety glass windshields, wipers......things that you'd ordinarily see only on LSVs.

Default Golf carts FRUITLAND PARK

In a short period of time our Neibor City of FRUITLAND PK will be allowing golf carts on posted streets.
The driver will need basic insurance, have complete light package, horn, seat belts and be at least 16 years old.
The carts will need to have a safety inspection by approved golf cart dealers and the police dept will for a fee give the cart a sticker to be affiixed to the cart.

That is a surprise. Fruitland Parks streets, if I remember correctly, are rather narrow and many of the vehicles are going rather fast.

Question Street Legal Carts Regulations

I realize that we're discussing LSVs but can anyone define what constitues a "street legal" cart (other than speed and insurance). I've seen many street legals on the road without windshield wipers or seat belts. It certainly doesn't seem safe or prudent to me to drive on most streets here in TV without these!

Some links-- Laws & Regulations for Low Speed Vehicles & Golf Carts in Florida

Florida Law

Might want to double-check if this is the current legal form for changing a golf cart into street legal-- http://www.tk411.com/pdf/LSV.pdf

Palm Desert, CA allows them as well.

I was in a Century bike race there last fall and almost got took out by a woman who turned right into a parking lot without checking to see if anyone was in the bike lane!

Thumbs up Golf Carts on Public Streets

A number of small cities in Southern Illinois allow golf carts on public streets. As far as I know it makes no difference if the carts are electric or gas. But you do have to have a valid drivers license and insurance.
