Re: Fads
Coal and ice deliveries.
Rag man's horse wagon going down the alley. Working in the bowling alley loading the pin machine by hand. Grand mother's phone number in Indiana was two longs and a short on party line. Phone numbers starting with words instead of numbers. Magickist Carpet, the Kiss of Beauty Hudson 3-2700. Stanley Home Products (like Fuller Brush) (and Jewel Tea Home Delivery) Egg deliveries to your house Welcome Wagon when you moved to a new town Tuesday 1 PM air raid warning practices and you had to get under your school desk(all the cars had to stop, too)

Nonie, Nope, my babushka was tired under my chin. Do you remember telephone exchanges such as Bittersweet 8-0000 or Wellington 5-0000. Do you remember the Omar man coming to the house with all sorts of good bake goods.

Re: Fads
Avista, how could I forget Riverview? Of course, I was so sorry to see it torn down, we had such fun there. Thankyou for bringing that up! Apologize to all who arent from Illinois. Riverview was a huge amusement park right smak dab in the middle of Chicago with some very scarey rides and rollercoasters.
Any other Illinois people have some Riverview experiences they can share?

Re: Fads
Chuck, those were great! and really brought back some memories.
Those air raid drills were really a pain. I do remember crawling under my desk. How funny as if that would help us in an actual air raid!! Chuck, off topic for a seconed, are you still interested in that slow and easy bike ride, Im drumming up some interest.

You bet - slow and easy for me and the misses (we will be staying all next winter - one more year of working for me)(unless the market takes a huge dump) Do you remember 2 cent days at Riverview - admission and all rides were 2 cents! Here's their website (!): http://www.riverviewparkchicago.com/ I bought a tee shirt from there last year.

Re: Fads
Gosh! Riverview! I loved it! Our neighbor and my sitter at times used to take her two daughters and I and we'd beg her to take us in the Tunnel of Love. And then we'd all make loud kissing sounds just to be brats and I'm sure all the teenagers loved that! lol
Also, beside the rag man with the horse and cart, we had a man that would come to the door to sharpen knives! And can anyone forget the Encyclopedia Salesman sitting in your living room. My parents actually fell for that one. Made time payments. Encyclopedia Britanica.

Isn't google the greatest thing since sliced bread! Like I mentioned earlier - I bought a tee shirt from the site and often proudly wear it around TV and get more comments than I get from my "Where the Heck is Wall Drug" shirt. (also bought after a google search)
