That is what you might see at Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. The hippo is 49 years old, 6000 lbs and is named Lu. Lu has been in several TV shows and movies according to the park ranger who does a daily spiel on Lu.

Yes, I also recommend a visit to Homosassa. It is a great way to spend several hours. It is wonderful they never got rid of Lu (the hippo) even though the entire park is all Florida wildlife. When we visited it was the first time we saw manatees up close. They are huge!

I highly suggest the boat trip ride down the mouth into the park it is a beautiful short trip and relaxing...really back to nature. the shuttle is a quick ride back to the entrance in case you wore yourself out in the park...and prefer not to take the launch

also if you have someone in a wheelchair..the boat rides are wheelchair accessible...

The state of Florida has made Lu, the hippo, a recognized state resident. Don't remember the circumstances, but do know someone will advise us of the history of Lu. And, if you do visit Homosassa, stay away from his back side.
