Charity Can Recyclers
A couple of weeks ago there was an article in The Sun regarding a group of men from The Villages who were collecting cans for recycle and using the proceeds to buy items for hospitals or schools or the like. We have been saving ours for delivery to them but there was no mention in the article that we could find providing a drop off location. Is anyone familiar with this group and know of a drop off point for them? Thanks. |

Thanks for posting this. We live in NY and are used to recycling. Will feel better donating the cans to them then putting them in the trash.
I assume they are also collecting eye glasses, if not, please let me know. HB |

Hbitat for Humanity is also collecting cans but I don't remember where to take them or if they pick up. (One of those things I want to on my get the answer on list.)
I believe another organization takes cans left at the softball field. HB, does this mean you're back from your cruise?

Hi Red,
Yes we got back and are busy playing catchup. How are the wedding plans coming? I heard that you are two timing your future faux hubby. Is that true? Hope it isn't - would be a bad example for Jess. HB |

FYI-the Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County, Inc. also has Villages residents collecting aluminum soda/beer cans to recycle for cash to help the animals in their care (not to take anything away from the other worthy causes!). Just providing another option towards helping the environment & the community. We had recently announced our goal to build Sumter County's and Florida's 1st "GREEN" Animal Shelter and every can counts! If anyone is interested in donating their cans to our "Get Off Your Cans" Campaign, please visit our website at www.hsspca.org or call 352-793-9117 to get info on the Green Shelter too. The 1st Committee meeting will be Feb. 16th at 1pm at the HS/SPCA office in Lake Panasoffkee on CR 529A, just next to the Sumter County Landfill entrance on CR 470.

I like that: the 'Get Off Your Cans Campaign.' Clever! I too would much prefer to give the cans to an organization that can use them, and the Humane Society is certainly a good one. Can you post WHERE and WHEN the cans can be brought?
Also, can anyone recommend a good, clean, maintained public dog park anywhere near TV? Thanks! |

It is well maintained and you do not have to clean up your dog's poop. Do have to watch out you do not step in poop though. You are supposed to mark where your dog(s) poop with a flag so that the various pooper scoppers can pick it up in their fairly regular rounds. All people do not mark their dogs' leaving with flags though. A negative is that you have to watch out for aggressive dogs and use some patience if your dog has not been socilaized with other dogs. The management does ban aggressive dogs but they have to find out that they are aggressive before they can do that. |

Thanks for the info. I wonder if there's a PUBLIC dog park that's worth recommending in the area of TV. Thanks!

Didn't know if any of the surrounding counties/towns/communities has a public dog park. When we and our son with his 'spoiled Rottenweiler' visited another son in the Clearwater area, Quixote (that's the Pups, not the son...) had a choice of public parks to run and play with other dogs. Just wondered, for the next time he comes to visit--thanks!
