Is Gaslight the name of that old movie where the man is trying to make the woman think she is nuts by playing devious little tricks on her and making things disappear when she knows full well they were there?

I had responded in the iPod thread. At first, I had laughed along with Sam at how much granddaughters can talk. Then I, of course, digressed with an ode to my iPod.

Then I posted.

The time was 10:07:58 AM.

I saw a mistake that I needed to edit.

When I went back in, the screen said that it was no longer available to me or some such thing.

I tried to find the post through various back doors. No luck. But I did go back and print it. That's how I know the time it posted. I managed to capture it on paper, thus hanging onto whatever semblance of sanity I may have left.

I know I wrote this thing. I know it went to post.

Is the universe trying to teach me a lesson so that I learn to stop goofing off on TOTV?

Or is someone here trying to gaslight me?

btw, Do I have the right movie? Was Gaslight the title?

Oh, and true to my last name, I will "be back" later with my iPod post. In it I was asking TOTVers to help me help my iPod.

Just for the record, I really think this had nothing to do with content at all. I think it was just a fluke of crossing in cyberspace at the exact nanosecond with something Jan was doing.

I am not offended in the least.

Boomer, love the new verb, "gaslighting" for someone trying to drive someone else nuts. I think it will catch on and we will eventually see it in the dictionary. lol

Gaslight - Great old movie with Charles Boyer and Ingrid Bergman. There was an earlier British version too.

Hi VK and Sam,

I am glad you are adopting "gaslighting." But it is not original with me, although I have used the word for years. It does sum up certain situations nicely, doesn't it. You can even branch out with the word and use it to describe passive-aggressive behavior.

This whole thread thing this morning was a little maddening.

I still think it was a fluke.

Yesterday, when I should have been working hard, I was accusing all of you of corrupting me in that "Somebody, please call the feds" thread. And V'07 tried to warn me that I had been both "besmirched" and "corrupted" here. And she is right. Oh my! And now, maybe I am being gaslighted.

I am here listening to tropicalglen.com on this laptop, reliving the 60's, and still trying to plow through all this office reorganization. And darn it! I keep looking in on all of you. I really must get a life.

Gaslighting. Actually that happened to me back in 2000 around 3 parks in Palm Harbor and Tarpon Springs, Florida. I had been doing quite well fighting for getting practical materials into libraries of all kinds especially law libraries. Had got something into Stetson's Law School in St. Petersburg, FL right around this time. This was a link to the FL Victim Services Directory. And, had had success with some other libraries around FL.

I frequently went to three parks about every day alternating one with another-- Fred Howard Park, A L Anderson Park, and John Chestnut Park.

Anyway strangers treated me with friendliness and I had seen various unknown people waving at me. Then a woman yelled out "We're Sorry!"

This was at Fred Howard Park around late March of 2000.

A few days after that a man --another complete stranger-- went and sat right down about ten feet in back of my car. There were many other places to sit but he just sat right behind my car. There were very few people in the park and very few other cars to sit close behind.

This was at A L Anderson Park.

What really made me sound crazy and probably STILL does is that at John Chestnut Park near the boat ramp a few days after the AL Anderson Park incident a black man of about 50 years of age listening to a head phone yelled out "It's a hit!"

I thought he was probably listening to a ball game. A baseball game given the season of the year. This was around the end of March 2000.

I started walking on a path which went away from the boat landing and passed an attractive white couple both about 30-35 walking in the other direction on my way back from my daily walk.

Anyway, as I was getting into my car about a two minute walk from the boat ramp I saw the same couple-- who had been walking in the opposite direction when I passed them by the boat ramp-- approach their car which was parking immediately in front of mine. I saw the man from the couple take what looked like a pistol from his waist band and from underneath his shirt and throw it in the convertible's back seat.

I got out of there fast.

Then as I was driving on the highway just outside this park-- not 5 minutes after this-- two trucks boxed me in and acted like they were going to push me off the road but none of the vehicles touched my so I had no evidence of any of this garbage happening to me.

Anyway, I told this all to my relatives leaving out the sight of the pistol as I was not sure I had even seen that.

The long story short is that I got labelled a paranoid schizophrenic after a week in a mental ward around the first week of April in 2000 following my nervous breakdown from trying to get people to look into why someone would want to make me sound crazy like this.

I have never seen any of these various people from these three Palm Harbor--Tarpon Springs area parks again from this ten days or so of experiences in 2000 since then.

Of course, I never went to these parks again on any kind of schedule.

I reported these experiences to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Department in person around September 17, 2002 to a Detective in the Criminal Intelligence department and he just told me there was nothing illegal if this actually did happen to me. I had no evidence and no witnesses as I walked alone in these three parks daily in 2000. I had been treated like a nutcase by the uniformed female cop at the front desk at the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office headquarters when I told her why I wanted to talk to a Detective. I had to wave some of my correspondence about victims' rights information and other stuff in front of her face before getting to speak in person with a Detective.

I was stuck with a psychiatrist for about 18 months (May 2000- Jan 2002) at my family's insistence too who whenever I tried to convince her that there were real people involved who messed with me she would just up my medication.

I do think people mess with your head on occasion. Not sure if this happens on TOTV. I have not seen anything like someone deliberately trying to make someone else sound bonkers here on TOTV.
