Default Geckos and Gas

First...we have a gecko in the house. They are so darned fast and we can't catch the little critter. I told Mr. Bright that he had a big job to do cause there is no way I can go to bed tonight with the fear of a little gecko wanting to join me while I sleep. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Second...Mr. Bright filled our cart with gas at the station on 466A. You know...the one with the higher prices. Well, since filling, the cart has been gagging and coughing ever since. He thinks their gas is bad and wants to report them. Where should he go to file a complaint?

First, the Gecko... Being a Gecko lover all my life, I find the best way to catch them is to chase them around until they poop out. This takes only about 2 or 3 minutes of their running around. At that time you'll see their little chest heaving from exhaustion. Then all you have to do is nudge your finger under their neck and he (or she) will crawl onto your finger like a Parakeet. You can then take him or her outside into their preferred habitat, eating bugs.

Next, the gas... The best explanation is that cars are like people. They, too, gag on the high prices.

I find that the easiest way to catch a gecko (really anoles) is to toss a dish towel over them. They stop moving and then you can pick them up inside the towel and reorient them to the outside area.

Whatever you do, do NOT pick them up by the tail as you will be left with a wiggling tail and no anole.

Bad gas from the Chevron could probably be fixed with adding Heet to the tank. There may have been water in the tank. Not enough to cause any major problems, but if you add heet to your gas tank it will absorb the water and maybe the cart will run better.

With all the rain there is a chance that water got into their underground tanks and they maybe keeping a small inventory on hand due to lack of sales. Water in underground gas tanks is very common regardless the age of the tanks. Usually you willfind that any station will have 2 or 3 inches of water in the bottom of their tanks (which equals about 100 to 200 gallons) The tanks usually hold 8k to 10k gallons of gas and if the tanks are kept full on a regular basis you will not have problems with the water, however if the tanks get low and remain low there is a chance of water mixing with the gas at the dispenser.

I worked for Shell Oil for many years and this was a problem we fought with quite often.

"heet" is also a form of gas deicer that us folks up north are familiar with. At the auto store get a can of dry gas which says it contains isopropol alcohol. The idea is that gas and water don't not mix however water and alcohol do mix then will mix with the gas
