As President Obama just said "He no longer belongs to us, he belongs to the ages". RIP Nelson Mandela.

I'm sorry that he wasn't strong enough to speak in public. I'm sure he wanted to.

And let's not forget; he was a loyal, registered member of the communist party. Most media and conversations avoid this truth and fact.

I wonder what we would be if we had gone through even a small portion of what this man and his family endured. Remember him for his greatness and pursuit of peace, it could have justifiably gone either way!

The White House announced today that President and Mrs Obama will attend Nelson Mandela's funeral next week in South Africa, along with world leaders from around the globe.

Also flying on Air Force One will be former president George W Bush and Laura Bush. The elder Bushes will not attend. The Clintons will also attend.

Does that negate or devalue what he did?

Thank you for your response. I am merely trying to show that there are two sides to every story. I try to stay with the facts and truths surrounding events. It is recorded that the man by choice, chose to live his life as he did. I find personally, that an individual who openly aligns himself with the likes of a Fidel Castro, and Moa (Butchers of humanity) should be studied. An individual who chooses to place one's family, friends, in the line of fire for their own purposes and gains; should have their character evaluated. The Gains I speak of are from his multiple businesses, in the $millions. Yet live reports show the vast majority still live in unthinkable poverty.

Like many great men Mandela had feet of clay. Think of most recent, Martin Luther King Jr. and Bill Clinton. That does not negate the good that they did for the world.

I think that JBlum was trying to make the point that he like others who have been given many accolades are human beings and not perfect beings. Not any of us are.
