Generally speaking, I find about a third of folks shopping in a grocery store to be unaware of others around them. They seem to think they are the only ones in the store and the only ones that count. And, that’s not just in The Villages. I try hard to be patient, really hard and at times, I loose it and have to say something. In our current situation, I will always speak up if I hear some idiot giving a cashier or other grocery store employee a hard time. I won’t tolerate that because whatever is going on, the cashier is not responsible for the rules imposed on us because of the virus. So, please be kind to grocery store workers and thank them for choosing to continue to work and being there for us to shop for our needs.

Solution: Run all your fruits, vegetables, and packaged meat through a cycle in your dishwasher! They’ll be Clean, clean, clean, partially cooked(steamed) and ready for the table!

No. She needS to get with the program and be more considerate. She needs to learn the ‘ new normal’. It’ll take awhile I’m afraid. Until then we have to continue to teach them. Way to go OP!

You are absolutely right! These people here just don’t get it! I was in situations where a guy stood close and talked loudly, one with no mask and I could visualize his droplets spewing all over to remain in the air for three hours. Please people wear a mask and be aware just because you can’t see something doesn’t mean it’s not there. Now I am counting the days!

It's the way that some people shop. They not only touch fruit and vegetables, they touch everything.
Not everyone is going to adhere to the protocols set in place for the pandemic. I think that we're all going to have to live with those that don't and take responsibility for our selves. When I get home from the supermarket, I wipe down all of the packaging with alcohol.

yes yes yes / not to mention the gloves thing is absolutely a farce unless you are changing them everytime you touch a different item which is obviously impossible.

The "gloves thing" as you so elegantly put it, is to protect ME, not you. My hands are encased in gloves, when I leave the store I roll them off inside out and discard them, my hands are germ free.

Food shopping
Quote:
Then I'm not near others, not standing in lines, not waiting for a turn. Not paying by credit card/ debit and putting in my code after every other person who was before me touched the key pads. Touch the key pad after an infected person without gloves is a risk. Shop online, wait for the delivery driver to leave, wait 15 minutes or so before going out to wash your groceries. I also dip all the bottles and sealed packages right into the bucket. This way I have no-one to feel upset with or worry they have the virus. When I'm done with cleaning my food I take a shower, change my clothes and put the clothes I had on right in my washing machine. We can find ways to avoid contact with others. There are times they are out of what you want, you can ask it be exchanged for another brand or ask they make no exchanges. |

I would have cut in front of her, grabbed what I wanted, and moved on.

Since the virus I find that people are very pushy and verbally rude. It’s to the point where I dread going into PUBLIX because of it. I’ve been food shopping for over 63 years and never felt this way. I also get irritated with slow people but never express it to them. I also wash all fruits and veggies with vinegar/water.

Just wash the fresh fruit and veggies. Dry them and store in plastic baggies with a piece of paper towel in the bag. They will last a long time. We take our grocery bags of fruit and put them directly into the sink when we get home. I also rinse the "triple washed" greens before use. It's not that difficult. I wouldn't want to go without grapes, bananas, oranges and berries if I don't have to. Also, it is advised to get in and out of a store asap. Touching every zucchini is ridiculous.

And now for the good news:
"Given the recent plant closures across the U.S. and some in Oregon, the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) and the Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) want to assure Oregonians there is no evidence that human or animal food — or food packaging — is associated with the transmission of COVID-19. Food products do not need to be withdrawn or recalled from the market if someone on the farm or in the processing plant tests positive." |
