Curious what do year round resident couple's do on an average weekend day / weekend evening.

I play Mahjong, Hand and Foot, Triple Play, Texas Holdem, Sequence and other games with many of my neighbors. There are neighborhood socials, coffees and luncheons monthly.
We go to the Squares, Savannah Center and out to lunch and dinner frequently. We get invited to many parties. We occasionally play bocce and shuffleboard. I have yet to get round to golf, bowling, classes etc. There are not enough hours in the day to do everything available here in TV. Everyday is the weekend here in TV. Some days you just have to "hide" and take a mini vacation.

I live with my parents after getting blacklisted from mid 1991 onwards from my chosen profession of law librarianship and losing my employment references for fighting for the rights of survivors of crimes from the University of Minnesota Law Library. I have done a remarkable amount of work through from the outside of my chosen profession by trying to make others fight for their own rights to access to practical information. I even I think got some celebrities interested in this matter?? Cannot think why else someone who has not worked in a long time would be listed in 14 Marquis Who's Who volumes and had 24 nominations to these publications from 1992 through 2002?



My parents go to church, exercise in the pool, go to the Villages Public Library which closes at 2 pm on Saturdays I believe, attend the every other month neighborhood pot lucks, watch a lot of sports especially golf, etc.

On a typical weekend, I go to the Doggie Doo Run Run, go to movies at various local theaters, attend the neighborhood parties, look at and post to TOTV a lot, play games on the computer, and research libraries on the Internet as to which ones have stuff that would be of practical values for survivors of various kinds of crimes.

As a single, I play bridge, mah-jongg, other games, go to dinner once a week with friends, meet up with TOTV folks when we can get together, do my chores and jobs as needed. So far, the only thing I've found that exists during the winter and not summer is the monthly Texas Hold 'Em at the Temple. My neighborhood potlucks will go down from twice monthly to monthly. Some things, like Katie Belle's breakfast go down in price for the summer. Things really don't change that much except some of your friends are gone and that's truly hard to take even knowing they'll be back.

In summer we go to KBs, (like no one knew that)......and Orange Blossom pool during the day. Mon. - Fri. hubby is working on the road and I am on the computer working, sometimes. ;D I am also very happy with a blank canvas and my oil paints! I joined pottery, but was allergic to the clay. Going to join again and try gloves. With new friendships blossoming I may have no time for the previously mentioned! We do eat out more often, prices and specials are great in summer. It is important to have shade, pools, and AC in summer. Not a problem! In 6 years our working can slow down and the playing WILL increase.

Tal, what a very commendable and honorable thing you do. How sad that such a good cause as yours has caused you to be blacklisted!!!! To think that the survivors of crimes do not have access to information at a University Law School LIBRARY is disconcerting, at least. Be proud of your hard work and your who's who status!!

This will be our first summer here but I really expect much to go on a usual. The one sad thing is that my snowbird friends won't be here for a few months. I expect we'll still go out to dinner with the friends that live here full time, my hubby will play bridge, I'm going to learn mah-jongg, just started to learn hand & foot. Love any kinds of card games which are constantly going on. Line dancing in the square (learning that too!) There really is just so much to do here. Still classes at the college. I'm very sensitive to being out in the sun too long, so I'll be indoors more. So, I think my summers here will be more like my winters in Chicago. More computer time and more home projects.

Ronda, we're just learning from neighbors, so I'll ask them and pm you. I think The Colony has it in the evening though. I'll check. Yes that is a stupid name, but a fun game! Maybe we can play together sometime. :bigthumbsup:

The U of MN Law Library got something that should be very useful for survivors of crimes around February 5, 2008. This was a link to a victim assistance directory from their web-site.

I think that they objected most to my basing my concerns on this issue on personal experiences of a murder of my English teacher's daughter Michelle M., that occurred on my birthday of February 24 in 1976 in Reno, Nevada. They attacked my mental health in a very sophisticated manner when I brought this niche up just in a personal memo saying that I wanted to do something about this problem which I had noticed in Nevada libraries from February 1976 onward. I talked about this cause and the U of MN Law School/Library's putting my mental health at issue-- for writing a personal memo about my experiences-- while at the University of California SF Medical School while in a study on stress on the unemployed. I was subject 6 1 3. I have been telling my story since 1993 using these numbers of 2 2 4 and 6 1 3.

Survivors of crimes did have access though if they talked about their experiences with a law librarian at the U of MN Law Library. The problem I saw was that very few people who have been a victim of many types of crimes are going to be honest about these experiences with a reference librarian in a law library type setting. Some will, but many probably would not.

I came across various law students while I was at the U of MN who had been victims of various crimes like rape, sexual assault, etc. and they seemed to keep this to themselves quite a bit.

Now that my "early retirement" has been approved, these are some of the things I plan to do beginning in July/August...

After we take the first several weeks setting up the house...
Join one of the bands and practice
Play some tennis
Design and install landscaping
Set up my first ever O gauge train layout
Do some writing
Learn Pickle Ball
Find some people who never played golf before and learn with them
Photograph everything
Meet the neighbors
Have pot lucks

Additionally, my wife will...
Join a reading and/or writing club
Join a Bible study group
Find people to play Canasta with
Learn Bridge

And if/when she gets her energy back, we will go out dancin' , stroll around the town squares together, hang out at the club houses, and feel sorry for the lost soul who wrote "Leisureville."
