Minnesota football players have chosen the wrong issue on which to make a stand - The Washington Post

Kind of proud of my school for taking a stand here against the would-be bullies of the U of MN football team. They should not be able to dictate the rights of alleged victims/survivors of what could be sexual crimes.

This is a difficult one indeed. I say so because Obama's DOJ has implement a de facto kangaroo court via Title IX that restricts due process right for the accused in colleges nationwide.

And its difficult because we seem to have this repeated theme of drinking and drugs and going to one's room for??????????????????

having said that this event should not be politicized but should follow the law. if the gopher team wishes to boycott so be it.

However the accused should be afforded their due process rights and not determine guilty until they have exhausted every avenue legally provided to defend their claim of innocence


In essence nothing should be allowed to interfere with our nations laws of due process or for its position that no one is above the law

If I understand the article correctly, the players are protesting the suspension of ten players who had sex with a drunk student. The players claim it was consensual, the DA said insufficient facts to prosecute, the school said irrelevant, athlete-students should be held to a higher standard. Im not convinced the suspension is entirely fair. This boycott seems to be a bit over the top. The players involved should have known better (and who in their right mind enjoys sex with a drunk or sloppy seconds, thirds, let alone tenths?). Definitely convinced the whole thing is extremely sordid and I certainly would be ashamed if my son was involved or willing to stand up for those who participated.

They did get a promise of a fair hearing with various different parties being there. The victim/survivor might get the worse of this whole mess which is very unfortunate but typical it seems where sports stars are concerned be they college or professional. Things are changing though.

This kind of crap also happened at the U of MN Law School while I was there but came down to he said/she said and did not involve completed acts just the threat of them.
