Default I met a man

who claims he was a Navy Seal. I have my doubts. How can I verify this?

Why does it matter?? If it does, tell him to prove it.

I am guessing the reason for the question is if he is lying (stretching the truth) about this what about everything else...

I am, but now retired. No more investigative authority.

I'm sure you have already tried googling his name and location.

Ask him to swim across Lake Sumter. If he comes out with a few Pocket Books And Wallets made from fresh hides then he is. If he doesn't come out he wasn't.

Next problem, please.

Good for you for being diligent. A person who would lie about serving our country is not someone I would ever want to be around.
I have always been a "listener" and I have a VERY good memory. More than once, I have caught people in contradictions or outrageous claims about their past. I have the ability to check and did. Very glad I found the truth and rid myself of posers.
I would suggest googling about finding military stuff. Short of asking for a DD214 (which would only confirm service, not SEAL status) not sure how to help you. There are many who brag of things they haven't done and never could accomplish in their worthless lives, and if they feel the need to lie about that, they are probably up to bigger and better lies that will only serve to hurt or swindle others.

I spent 20 unglamorous years in AF working 12 shifts, weekend, holiday's overhauling, testing, and fixing jets engines out in the boondocks. Few ever took interest or thanked me for fixing there fighter jet, bomber, cargo hauler, or tanker. I didn't expect it or brag about it, it was my job which had serious consequences for even minor mistake. Then, spent 20 more years second career doing the same thing.

I find that people that Bragg are suspicious to me and who cares any way? Few people I meet know I was in military and what I done. As for seals and other special forces very few who try actually make it. They are big cut above the rest and I doubt true warrior would Bragg about it or let be known.

Default For $20

Don Shipley, a retired Navy Seal, has developed a cottage industry of exposing fake Navy Seals. For years he did this for free, but the volume of inquiries has forced him to charge a $20 fee for the service. Give him the man's first and last name and approximate age and he will give you a report.

Get the information at PHONY NAVY SEALs Verifications | Extreme SEAL Experience .

Shipley can also be seen on youtube videos.

So was he bragging, such as who he saved and his missions, or did the conversation start as what part of the military were you in.
I find some speak of their service, such as I am a ________vet, and thats the extent of the conversation.
