Default Humane Society puts out urgent call for cat food, litter

The Humane Society/SPCA is urgently requesting support from its community with donations of dry cat food and clumping cat litter for the increasing number of rescued cat and kittens in addition to supporting their “Kibbles on Wheels” pet food assistance program. This program currently helps feed nearly 90 eligible low income families’ pets throughout Sumter County, consisting of more than 200 animals. Donations of dry cat food bags or financial contributions can be earmarked for “pet food” when done by check or via Paypal on their website hsspca.org.
Villager Bill Gottschalk, HS/SPCA President and “Kibbles on Wheels” program Coordinator pointed out “our supply of dry cat food is practically depleted right now so we are concerned for the more than 100 cats that rely on their monthly allotment to not go hungry.” The consistent economic challenges have made it difficult for many less fortunate area residents. The Society’s services are being strained continuously to meet their growing needs in these trying times. On average, the HS/SPCA currently provides over 3500 lbs. of pet food each month to feed dogs and cats within Sumter County. “To those wishing to help on a larger scale,” Gottschalk said. “Clubs, neighborhoods, churches and youth groups may want to take this opportunity to organize a pet food drive which would make a big difference during this urgent time of need. Dry cat food and clumping cat litter are the priority currently.”
In The Villages area, donations can be dropped off at PAWS Animal Hospital, Buffalo Ridge Animal Hospital (both locations), Whole Earth Pet Supply and PAWS For a Moment Natural Pet Food Market; Sparr Farm & Building Supply and Bone Crazy Dog Grooming in Wildwood. I Mailed monetary donations can be sent to the Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County at PO Box 67, Lake Panasoffkee, FL 33538 or securely online at hsspca.org via Paypal.
