Default Med-vac helicopter

We were down by Colony late this afternoon when a med-vac helicopter landed next to Walgreens. Pretty soon an ambulance came as well as a firetruck and a "civilian" vehicle that we surmised were either family or friends. They transported someone from the ambulance BUT didn't seem to be in a huge hurry. Wonder what that all was about??? Ambulance came a few minutes after the helicopter landed from the west. Has anyone heard anything regarding this???

Maybe the family wants it kept private, did you ever think of that?

Not really an infrequent occurance in the Villages. Have seen them a couple of times landing at Polo grounds. Apparently fire truck has to be present.

It was just an inquiry...not an infringment on someone's privacy as this was our first time observing this!! There were ALOT of folks "rubber-necking" and we just happened to be at the Colony Rec area so could view it across the field. Didn't see an accident nearby or anything! So...NO...we didn't think of that!

Chances are you will see an article in The Daily Sun tomorrow.

I was playing golf at Bacall this afternoon and saw the firetruck and EMS unit head over toward Colony.

I seriously doubt that. Seems like these incidents are no longer reported in the newspaper.

I think a fire truck is always the first responder because they can get there faster and they have all the lifesaving stuff.

I hope this isn't marginalizing your post, Hancie. I am STILL not sure what that means. Marginalizing.

I don't know if it will be reported, because we aren't sure what happened and can't check. I don't think we hear each time the emergency services are summoned. That would seem to be almost impossible. Perhaps it was a medical emergency rather than an accident.

I do know that I hear sirens FREQENTLY and I know that someone is going someplace to help someone.

Thank you EMS.

Two points of information for you:
It is common practice in the use of helicopter evacs to have fire apparatus at landing zones when they are outside of hospital landing zones. They apparatus provide a variety of service but most importantly they "mark" the preferred landing zone and also provide a safety precaution for all concerned.
Also, the transfer of patient care is not something that is done quickly and rightly so. Patient information has to be given to the medical personnel on the helicopter who then may start additional treatment that the first responders may not be qualified to preform. That takes time.
