Default German supermarket tycoon (Aldi) Albrecht dead at 94

This was announced in today's Daily Sun, July 22, 2014.

Albrecht and his brother Theo worked in their parents' grocery store when they were growing up. Theo died in 2010.

In 1962, the two brothers split the company in two and took on the name "Aldi" for their company (a combination of "Albrecht and Discount". Each one took responsibility for half (south and north) but with combined bargaining power. They had about 300 stores at the time.

Today, throughout Europe, Australia and North America, the group has thousands of stores in 17 countries. They bought Trader Joe's in 1979.
In 1992, the brother's were featured in Forbes as two of the world's richest men.

This year Forbes ranked Albrecht No. 24 on the list of the world's richest.

Who's in charge of the stores now? I don't know, the article didn't say.
