FWIW - A friend of mine has a Subaru Forrester and he loves it. It's rated high on Consumer Reports and it's easy access for getting in and out.

I have a Subaru Forester and love it. Plan to get another one when this one gives out. I especially like the size of it - not too big, not too small--just right. It has a moon roof which is fun in The Villages. Maintenance has been minimal - the car is six years old. I understand that the new ones have better gas mileage.

Hyundai Sante Fe - the most bang for your buck and an excellent ride. Service is beyond excellent at the dealership in Ocala and by Hyundai corporation itself. Always drove a Jeep before the Hyundai, but had to consider gas mileage.

Dealership gave a very expensive quote to update the GPS which we declined. A week later we received a box of chocolates and a coupon for a free upgrade from Hyundai. Can't beat that!

Another vote here for the Subaru Forester. It saved my life when a car hydro-planed into me on a highway. My Subaru was totaled, but my airbag went off and I walked away without a scratch. It also has all-wheel drive that is good in snow.
A close "second" is the Honda CRV, which has excellent safety ratings and good mileage. And, the smaller version of that, the Honda Fit, is also good.

Hyundai is supposed to have a good Sante Fe I do hear. Have to do some test drives to see which best suits us.

We drive a Honda CRV and love it! Great gas mileage and comfortable. Our daughter and her husband have a Subaru Forrester and said it's the best vehicle they have ever owned.

My two favorties are no longer made..the Ford Excursion and the Hummer H-2. I have in the past had Chevy Suburbans and I really like them. My current is a Ford F-150 double cab.

2012 CHevy Equinox LTZ 4 cylinder, 6 speed automatic transmission..
Just the right size.
Gets 32 mpg on the highway and 24-26 around town.
Well made in America....great fit and very good finish. Chevy has learned their lesson and listened to the customer.

The 4 cylinder easily out performs the 6 cylinder GMC I had before.
It goes just as fast as the 6 and 8s on the highway.
All this about 4 cylinders is just as true for most other makes as well. The key is the efficiency of the transmission. The more speeds the better.

Don't knock iyt until you drive one.

I have gone from 8 cylinder Suburbans to 6 cylinder GMC to now the 4 cylinder Equinox......and I am very satisfied.
