Did anyone here happen to watch Brain Games tonight on the National Geographic Channel? The program sure convinced me to never volunteer to be an eye witness. It was amazing to learn that what we "think" we see is not always accurate.

I missed it, but individual perspective and how that evolves has always been fascinating to me.
Someone told me a story when I was little, about three blind men being introduced to an elephant for the first time. One placed his hands on it's trunk and deduced that an elephant must look like a great snake. The second man placed his hands on the elephant's tail and left with the conviction that an elephant was not snake-like at all, but more like a swinging piece of rope. The third man circled his arms around the elephant's leg and knew that certainly the other two must be wrong. Elephants were like very large trees, plain and simple.
It's all in individual perspective.

can consciously process only 7-9 bits of info at any given moment it is amazing that we can agree about anything. That's what they mean by your own "personal reality". We all come to our own conclusions by gathering our selected bits of info and creating our own picture of what those bits mean. The more we can juggle and rearrange those bits, the more open ended and flexible our conclusions are.

My husband usually prefaces his conclusions with "as far as I know" which I sometimes interpret as protecting his butt. However in reality it really is an indication that he is open to another possibility.

I had a trainer once who said that the question to ask yourself when you disagreed with someone was, "what must s/he believe in order to come to that conclusion?" Then that opened the door to gathering and exchanging more info.

The challenge I find is to have my wits about me enough in the moment to ask the question and listen to the answers. I'm usually too busy talking!https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...ahblahblah.gif

Hi Veronica! I didn't see it, but I love the idea of taking in all there is around me, as an exercise in appreciating the beauty and reality of the world. We can miss so much by not using our minds, senses, and sensitivities.
