Have the person meet Mr. LCP .380 or his sidekick Mr. Glock .40. I am very proficient in the use of both of them and I will not hesitate to use either if my life or my wife's life is in imminent danger.

I agree but be prepared for the blowback from our anti gun friends.

Rather be alive, then deal with blowback.

My house has never burnt down but I still carry fire insurance.

Do you never leave the Villages? Chances are you will never ever have a problem but if you do you might be happy you watched the video clip... who knows.

In the five years I have lived here, I go on frequent excursions outside The Villages. However, I have not used an ATM outside The Villages.

I just looked at the clip. Is a robber really going to grab you in that way? Chances are the robber would grab the cash and take off running or jump in a waiting car. Be aware of surroundings at all times. If the robber did grab the cash, take off running and you pulled your Glock, took aim, and fired 3 shots into his "10" zone, you would be in very deep dog doo. Your life or another was not in imminent danger at that point. Ka-ching says your lawyer! You have just lost everything you worked for all your life.

The information in the video may be useful if someone hugs you from behind when you are using an ATM, but I would think that the more common situation would be an armed robbery. Also, whenever I use an ATM, I find one inside a store or at a bank drive-in, so my bigger concern is if an armed robber follows me after I leave the ATM.

Thank you for posting. Pulling the fingers back and stepping back to throw someone off balance are simple self-defense maneuvers that are good to know whether you are attacked at an ATM or elsewhere. Please, don't get caught up on the ATM aspect of the video. That isn't the point.

The point is to try and learn something that could save your life if you are being grabbed from behind. I'd pray that none of us are ever attacked or grabbed in an unwanted manner, but if it does happen, maybe something about the video and discussion will be stuck in our memories. Don't forget to scream at the top of your lungs something like "back off!" It shows you are noncompliant and not an easy target. Take away their focus and give yourself a chance to escape.

I really don't concern myself with that because I am fully aware of my surroundings at all times; 25 yrs. as a LEO will make you be that way. So, in essence, the subject will never get a chance to grab anything - myself, my wife or our money - because he will be disabled. BTW, I am also a 2nd degree Black Belt in Taekwondo; the weapons are only if they decide to not fight fair.

Default Self Defense for your Life

The previous posts by "kcrazorbackfan" has it exactly right...

a few facts to add to his post and our training.. a person within 22 ft. with a knife is considered by all law enforcement training to be a threat to your life... belive it or not they can have you dead before one can even have
their weapon out of the holster... and don't be concerned about the
robbers safe zone .. if they have a gun and have threaten your life .. until that threat on your life is entirely removed.. they might just be handed
their death certificate...

Nasty thread on the holidays but at least its full of truth! Look it up in
any police training manuals... or any certified self defense training facilities.

Even as the population of The Villages grows to 102,000 in snowbird season, the crime rate is still miniscule when compared to other similar sized communities.

No, the bad guys are not here because of the large number of guns in The Villages. It is because of the protection we provide each other in terms of watching what is going on in our communities.
