Default Need advice on a good mattress

We are moving to TV shortly and need to buy a new mattress. Any suggestions on which mattresses are firm and cool to sleep on?

We were going to close on our house and had no furniture. Decided to buy a new bed. Consumer Reports rated the Original Mattress Factory as the best mattress store. In the rating of mattresses, theirs were ranked #2 at almost 1/3 the price of the #1 Tempur-Pedic and 1/2 the price of the #3 Sleep Number (Select Comfort). On a Monday, we drove to their showroom in Ocoee, about 40 miles away. Found out that they deliver to The Villages on Tuesdays and Thursdays, IIRC. We tried all the choices. Ordered a frame, box spring and mattress that we liked. Delivery costs extra. We closed on our house the following Thursday morning. About 2 in the afternoon, we got a call from the delivery truck saying that they were near. Two nice guys showed up, unloaded and set up the bed where we wanted it. Easy peasy.

It's firm and cool for me. I believe that you have to try the mattresses for yourself, whatever brand you're going to buy.

We had a Sleep Number 5000 and it was time for new mattress. My back was killing me every morning and no change of the number was fixing that.

My wife and I went through 3 different mattresses before we stumbled upon the Serta iComfort series. I/we absolutely love it. My concern was that being a foam mattress it would be hot. So not true! This cool foam gel thing is amazing. My back is never warmer than my front. I don't know exactly how it works, but it seems to wick away the heat and is so comfortable. We have the firm and it is amazingly comfortable.

We are getting a great night sleep too, and no sore/stiff back in the morning. I think the only downside is getting used to a foam mattress if you have never had one. It can be tough to get out of bed. I don't mean because you don't want to, I mean it's hard to sit up. I kind of have to roll over and out, but it is a much better alternative to a sore back any day.

Good luck in your search, it can be a real painful process.

Tempur Pedic is ranked #1 for a reason. It is simply the best.

Default I have a friend...

who investigated this issue by sleeping all over the neighborhood. No really.

If you are in the Caroline area and see a short sweet woman walking around with a pillow...Well. She is just doing reseach on new bedding.

Bill-n-Brillo were present when we heard this. We'll never tell who it is. But she posts on here and everyone loves her. She is just checking out bedding. Get your minds outa the gutter.

This is NOT a rumor!

LOL.....I must confess, I was the one with the pillow....

After trying memory foam, sleep number beds, as well as the adjustable beds from Relax in Comfort, we went with a FloBed. They are made in northern CA and give you the ability to change out cores making the bed soft, firm or extra firm. I have extra cores at home when I want to change the firmness of my mattress.
The bed arrived in a number of boxes, not large, and was easily assembled. There is a trial period where you can exchange cores or completely return the bed if you find it not to your liking. We've had ours for three years at this point...a record for us. It does take a little bit of getting use to...it's a latex bed and it's sort of like sleeping on a cloud.

Honestly, ask your friends what type of bed they have, if they like it and if you can try it out for a short nap...might give you some idea what it will feel like after it's been used for a while.

Thank you all for your input. I guess I will just need to go and try out different mattresses before buying. I like the news about the cool gel not being hot. In my research I've read comments from people who say their foam mattresses get sink holes after a few months. Any one experience that?
