We all need to be aware of our surroundings - I was thinking of this today, as I was walking around the ponds here in the Richmond village.

I heard a reporter today say that to get away from an alligator you have to run in a zig zag pattern. Really? A zig zag pattern ..... the area of the bank shown on TV was kinda steep and at 85 I doubt she is going to run up a bank and especially not in a zig zag pattern. It was a very terrifying way for this poor lady to die, but it could have been prevented. She may well have been a winter visitor and not used to the Florida wildlife.

There's another news item about a woman out walking her dog being trampled by a moose.

I think the solution is to get rid of your dog.

I saw a video online today of guys fishing from a boat with a gator swimming quickly behind their catch. It snatched it, then jumped straight up them. They were laughing until they weren't. I don't think it got them...but just the same those critters aren't anything to fool with. People need to be aware AND their pets need to remain away from the ponds. ALL the time we'll see people who want to know if their dogs can swim here. SMH Florida isn't like your home-state up north.

Careful is essential, especially now as alligator mating season is starting soon.

remember at night an alligator is near invisible upon lawns and in or near shrubby especially some postal stations near water. Gators travel from pond to pond so be aware of your particular position especially those on the various paths throughout tv

We were camping at Eglin AFB in the Florida Panhandle last spring. You couldn't let your kids or dogs be outside the RV unsupervised because of bears and there were signs along the water saying not to let your dogs get too close because of alligators.
