My sister told me about this system of adjusting car mirrors to eliminate blind spots. I watched the video she sent me explaining how to do the adjustments. That was about seven years ago and I have been adjusting my car mirrors like this ever since.

This system does work and I feel so much more secure and safer driving my car. Here, in The Villages, I can always see a golf cart in the cart paths simply because this system does totally eliminate blind spots in the car.

I learned about this ten years ago when editing a driver's ed video for a Las Vegas school district. I've been using it ever since; it really works. I suppose it might not be needed in newer cars with all their sensors and cameras, but my car doesn't have any of that.

55 Alive for us seniors teaches that mirror adjustment. (10% discount on your car insurance) My loving tbird 'Black Beauty' has no blind spots..with the top down. Jane and I both like the 'blind spot' option on our newer car..

Wow -- I learned from this. Can't wait to try it out even though I paid extra for the Safety Package in the Toyota Rav 4 that detects cars on the sides. This little adjustment can prevent some accidents I am sure.

I put this mirror adjustment to very good use early on after learning about it. I did avoid an accident on the Garden State Parkway in NJ. I am convinced if I had to take that extra second to crane my neck around to see if I could safely move out of my lane, I would have been hit. The quick response time it took for me to glance in both mirrors to assure me I was safe to move out of the lane prevented a sure fire accident.

CF - thanks. One of our cars does not have any sensors. I've been doing something similar, but not completely correctly.

If anyone is contemplating a new auto-don't forget about blind spot sensors, auto emergency braking--these options are more important than fancy wheels or a super sound system-

My car is a 2011 and has these systems and more--it has saved my butt more than once.

The VHA Helping Hands offer "Carfit" in the summer which teaches not only this technique but where to put your hands on the steering wheel so that the air bag will not brake your nose or wrist or glasses. Check the newspaper for schedule.

The mirror adjustment video is interesting, but I have to take issue with it. I always adjust my mirrors so that I can see the sides of my car when I scan the mirrors while driving. Otherwise, I would not trust that my mirrors have not been inadvertently or accidentally changed since my last adjustment. I always move my head or turn my head to view the blind spots whenever I change lanes. So, I just could not feel safe with the recommended adjustments.

I agree, no substitution for turning your head, especially since one step in the video depends on your peripheral vision.
