Default Need a Vet

We are part timers for now until I can retire. I need a good Vet for our 9 year old female Shih tzu. She is having some sort of problem and I need to have someone competent take a look at her.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Default Vet recommendation

Hi! I have used Amy Barnett at Paws Animal Hospital in Laurel Manor Professional Center, located at Buena Visa and 466. Their # is (352) 259-2439. She is AAHA accredited and took care of a problem we were having with our Chihuahua. The staff all seems very nice as well as the office very clean. I am there once a month to pick up food and have seen the girls at the front desk with dogs and cats behind the counter giving them special attention and love.
Best of luck with your little one. Hopefully he'll/she'll feel better real soon.

Another vote for PAWS! They really love my dog and I think it is mutual!

I use Dr. Kelly Krause at Buffalo Ridge for my two girls and she is fantastic! They also have an emergency clinic that is open once the their regular hours are over and on the weekends.

Another vote for Dr. Kelly Krause. She is the best we have seen here in the Villages

Default Vet recommendation ...

Park Heights Animal Hospital
Ross Valdez, veterinarian
Route 441 South, Fruitland Park
352-326-9116
(separate entrances for dogs and cats)

We took our son's dog there on the recommendation of a veterinarian friend who had done some free-lance work there a few years back. Our concern was that, given the dog's age, the sluggishness and occasional limp might have meant the onset of "doggie old age." The staff is warm and friendly to the extreme. Dr. Valdez examined the dog, prescribed chondroitin for the beginnings of hip displasia, and asked if he had ever had a blood test, which he hadn't. He suspected that the dog was hypothyroid--which was proved by the test. He put the dog on thyroid medication along with the chondroitin--and within two weeks this older dog began acting like a puppy again! When he returned for a re-test to determine if the dosage was correct, the staff person said that there was no need to see the vet again (unless we wanted to), and this brought down the cost of the visit considerably. Needless to say, we are very impressed and highly recommend the practice!

Dr Krause and Dr Rakes at Buffalo Ridge Animal Hospital are both wonderful. We've been seen by both and they are very professional. Their hospital is next to Walmart off 466 (behind Golden Corral).

My parents take their cat to Paws Animal Hospital and are also very pleased with the doctors there.

Good luck with your puppy!
