Default A/C Filters

I checked my Carrier A/C air filter and it needed changing. Went up to the new Home Depot in Wildwood. They had the A/C filter I needed for my system. 19x20x4 (actual size 19-1/8 by 19 3/16's by 4 5/16's Merv 8 for $20. I picked up two. I think this is a great buy.

It is a great buy because it is on sale for 39 percent off the regular price. It is a Flanders filter, which is the same brand that ACE Hardware sells. Flanders filters seem to be a good fit for the Villages Carrier AC units.

I buy my filters from Amazon because they have a better selection of Merv ratings, 8, 11, and 13. I have been using Merv 11 filters for a few years and I have noticed a significant difference in the dust and noise level in my house. Most of the local stores will only stock Merv 8 filters in popular sizes.

We order ours from Amazon. The A/C installer was pretty honest about it, saying that his company could bring one out and install it at the time of their annual inspection at their price, or we could order the same thing from Amazon for about half the price and install it ourselves.

I like my Filtrete MERV 12's, same size as OP. They are on sale at Lowe's for $20 each or $18 if you buy 2 or more. I bought 4.

Default Lifetime Air Filter

I have a lifetime air filter that I rinse off with a hose. Rated MERV8. Look at www.villageairfilters.com.

I would never live anywhere near the Turnpike. But, in my opinion, the Merv 11 filters are better than Merv 8 because they reduce dust and HVAC fan noise. Replace them every 6 months, and they won't affect your HVAC performance.

The higher the Merv, the lower the airflow.

Correct, but my fan speed is set on medium, and I still have plenty of airflow to maintain a comfortable temperature in the house.

No saying it reduced noise from reduced air flow
