After atking into account commentary here on TOTV, internet research and others who currently use both, I decided on Ooma.
Got it from Amazon for $129. The set up and connect are realy as easy as 1-2-3.

Cancelled Century Link at $39.00 per month and now will be billed around $3.50 for taxes and fees. The Ooma initial cost will be offset in less than 4 months.

The quality of the voice is very clear...crystal. Equal to or better than land line service.

We all have cell phones for back ups these days.

When the last Hurricane stopped off on the NC coast, the internet came back about 8 hours before the phone service. I don't think the land line companies are keeping up with their infrastructure maintenance.

Can you keep your current home number with Ooma? We have Comcast now.

We have Ooma - the only thing we found you need to consider. If you have any kind of a device that monitors a pacemaker you have to get a separate wireless unit from your pacemaker provider. Ooma will NOT respond to requests from your pacemaker provider for updates.
Also, make sure you sign up for 911 service and make a "test" call to ensure they have the correct address when they answer the call. Just state that you are making a non-emergency call to test your phone service and ask them to repeat the address that comes up on their screen.

We were able to keep our current number. Ooma can verify that for you. There is a port fee.

I have used OOMA for several years now with great success at my home and 2 rental homes. On my home I have the premium service with two lines. One line is my Virginia number and the other my Florida number. So I take the box with me and always have both numbers.

You can also forward the phone to your cell phone when traveling or away from home. Very handy if you have someone doing a service appointment and they will call before coming, but you have errands or you want to run to the store or something.

Will OOMA work with a FAX machine? That is the main reason we have a land line.
