I only spoke to origins of the phrase, not the co opting of it.

It is language used by paramedics and physicians and nurses, it isn't commonly used for everyday communication. The reason for language is to exchange information not as a game to figure out what the other means.

Oh, get over the possible phrasing of Political Correctness or not.

5 innocent people who just got up that morning, got breakfast, kissed their families goodbye and drove to work - GOT MURDERED by a former co-worker who should not have had a gun.

Don't be so insulated that this doesn't bother you.

The term was around long before the anti-abortionists picked up on it and turned it into something political. It is part of the medical field jargon.

Of course it bothers most of us. Please don't use it to be anti-gun. We are all sick of violence and worried about what is going to happen next in this world where morals seem to be disappearing.

When we were children, small children, we walked many blocks to school. Now adults are afraid of public places and even home invasions. Work places and schools aren't safe. Hospitals aren't safe. I can see why people want to have guns, although I have never owned one.

What is the big difference in The United States between then and now? In the world between then and now?

We hurt for the families of those victims. Two teenagers now without parents. We hurt for Manchester, for London, for Orlando..

We are trying to make sense of the world today and may tomorrow hear we can't use the word world....no shouldn't not can't. I say......WHO sez we SHOULDN'T use regular speech? Our regular hearts are breaking and our nerves are frayed.

I don't know which is worse. We can't seem to stop either kind of horrible violence. Please don't say anything about guns. Bad people will always be able to get them. I don't have one, but I don't think we need to change the laws about citizens carrying guns. Maybe if someone had one at that office it might have ended differently.
Yes, I will say that the fired employee should not have had a gun. He has been involved in a battering case with another employee a few years ago as well as a few DUI's and marijuana possession. This shows he was not a law abiding citizen. His gun should have been removed by law.

As in every shooting, you will find people saying if the victims had a gun, the outcome may have been different. I ask you, Grace, should an employee now have a sidearm in a holster as part of normal business attire?

This has been my little soapbox tirade. I am not going to answer any gun issue questions from anyone. You know me well enough, Grace, both on a forum basis and personal level to know I am passionate about this this topic - but also as a reasonable human.

Best to you, Henry, Helene, and the little panthers.
