That should provide plenty of visuals for nightmares.

The lil things that have happened in TV are not a pimple on the butt of a real sinkhole. This is a real sinkhole.

Thank you for the "heads up" on this excellent Nova program. It was very informative and had some good information. Now if you see someone walking around the exterior of the house with a long metal rod prodding the ground it will be me!

Two highlights from the show that I can remember is the suggestion to not build in central Florida and how a planned community in Spain was demolished because of sinkholes. I believe that the show was made for Village people as I couldnt sleep a bit last night as all I could picture in my mind was my house falling into a pit in the ground. Actually, I am back in Ohio with my wife staying in the Florida house.

On the positive side, Florida University students are studying the problem and the State of Florida is aware of the issues. I am happy to see that The Villages understands water conservation as the pumping of large quantities of water from the ground with heavy rainfall amounts is not a good thing.

Having flown as a private pilot for over 40 years, I know that sometimes fate is the hunter. Did I throw caution to the wind in my move to the Villages? Only time will tell as I am not going to lose any sleep over it.

Now, where can you purchase that rod to check the ground?

I have lived in Florida for 55 years (pretty much equally divided between SE, Central and NE Fla) and in all of that time I do not personally know ONE single person that has their home affected by a sinkhole ..... I don't even know anyone that knows anyone that has. Considering that I spent over 30 years in either sales or owning a small biz in the service sector ...... I know a LOT of people.

If you spend any amount of time actually worried about a sinkhole swallowing your house ... you reallllllllly need to find a hobby.

This was a highly informative program. A bit scary, too.

Marion County runs PBS out of Gainesville, while Sumter County runs PBS out of Orlando.

They carry different shows.
