Very scary but true..........government has taken over from birth to death.

It really hit home (although in a comical vein) because of the book I just finished re how ISIS takes over American schools all over our country, knowing just how all of the Americans would react.......how no one would have guns to defend themselves.......

And, just how, bychance, did they get here?

In containers on ships.....that are not checked; can't check them all.

Amusing scenarios but so exaggerated it is ridiculous.

How about a 2015 16 year old taking Dad's pistol and Black Talon bullets to school? (It happened in Leesburg last week)

How about the 2015 Dad who hits his golf ball accidently through a window and just walks away saying, "It is the homeowner's responsibility since he bought on a golf course."?

How about the 1970 youth who blows up ant hills, moves to killing cats, and further moves upward to being a serial killer because no one thought to get him referred to a psychologist?

How about the 1970 teacher who did prey on young students but the kids were not believed or it was swept away with a teacher transfer?

The "good old days" were not necessarily all good.

if one wants to date when this country began its move from the good old days to today consider the movie Bambi which began humanizing animals. Consider the Hollywood teenage rebellion Rebel Without A Cause, A Summer Place, etc with it ubiquitous, absolute and misguided message that parents really don't know what's best that formed the basis for a continuing deterioration of parental authority. The next phase can be dated with the infamous John Lennon quote of "We are more famous than Jesus Christ" and a make love not war philosophy that moved parents from being parents to being friends and buddies of their kids because that makes mom and dad so hip...

When I was in high school, I made a small working Cannon in shop class. We fired if off at the end of the football field into the corn field. Could you imagine the news if someone did that today.

Very sad. Did the college teachers of the 50's and their social science colleagues begin the dismantling of our nation's self image and values? Did they hand it off to the boomers coming of age in the sixties and seventies and encourage its applications to all ways of our national life? In the courts, the K-12 classrooms, the media, etc. and perhaps too frightened and way too broad reactions to perceived terrorism and "sexual abuse" and sexual precociousness - as interpreted only by the social scientists in the schools and institution and ratified by stupid quivering school boards.

I am a retired teacher.
That doesn't seem the least bit true.
If you were a teacher recently let me know if it seems true to you.

The only thing that seems true is that where I taught in NJ, a few years before I taught, a boy could get on a bus with a shot gun, dressed like a hunter and the bus driver knew he was going hunting. That's what another teacher who grew up in Riverside use to do. No one thought he might be going to shoot up a school.

I find it depressing that some actually want to go back to the fifties, sixties, seventies ... Bad things happened then, they were just kept quiet. Child abuse, not a simple spanking but hitting and leaving bruises, was rampant. A rape victim was blamed for the attack. A child with ADHD or Aspergers or a birthmark or in crutches or in a wheelchair was mercilessly bullied by his peers, forced into special classes, hidden from view. How can anyone want to return to that life?

Yes, things have gone too far today. Zero tolerance is downright stupid. Political correctness has been turned into a farce. We need to add some common sense to the mix but we certainly shouldn't return to a school system that condones bullying, thinks weapons in school are acceptable, sexual abuse is hidden rather than stopped, victims are blamed for the crimes committed against them.

I would add that the good old days were in fact for most of us the good old days. And yes anyone can trump up a hypothetical scenario for any day to make a point. Nobody is ever saying all was or is good.....just recognize that most was or is.

So, are you saying that it is good to keep things under cover? The reason it was the good old days for most of us is because the bad stuff was kept under wraps; sometimes out of choice, many times because there just wasn't access to news like there is today.

I remember most of my childhood fondly. Knowing what I know about the fifties today, I'm glad my daughter was born in the eighties. I'm hoping that my grandson's generation is a little kinder and more accepting than the children of my and even my daughter's childhood.
