I don't have a problem with the concept, but how much will it cost to enforce? Sounds like another Government bureaucracy.

You've mentioned this before. This was debunked over 8 years ago: UPC Barcodes - Where Products Come From As for the topic at hand: I'm guessing most beef is going to be American beef, because we have a lot of cows. The USA is the largest producer of beef in the world, followed by Brazil and the EU. Very few beef hybrids are imported from elsewhere. So I wouldn't worry about where your steak comes from. Unless you're buying Wagyu or similar, chances are, it's American beef. Chickens can come from almost anywhere but again, there are lots of chickens in the USA. If you buy from a trustworthy store where the label states it was raised in the USA, then you should be comfortable believing that. As for pork, you can check labels. Although it's not required, some companies are proud to provide American-raised pork, especially if they're local to wherever you're buying it from. You won't get much more than that with regards to pork. Re: dairy: fresh dairy products are going to come from the USA, except perhaps along border states where it might come from Canada or Mexico. Milk, ice cream, other items that are -not- shelf-stable - would usually come from local co-ops or private farms (depending on the brand). Some might come from a few states away but that would be a regional dairy, such as would serve Land-o-Lakes and Hood. Last edited by OrangeBlossomBaby; 04-30-2020 at 11:14 AM. |
