I received a call from someone who said he was calling from the Solar Guys. They installed a solar tube for me three years ago. Somehow, they knew I had a new roof installed two years ago. They wanted to know if they wanted me to have them go up on my roof to check and service my solar tube because the roofers may have done a poor job in putting shingles, etc around the tube. I haven't noticed any leaks or other problems yet.
I was thinking that this was going to be a free offering. Nope, they want $199 to do it. Any thoughts? Thanks. |

I would tell them no. The roofer is responsible for any leaks, and why did they wait 2 years? Also, if they do anything, the roofer would not be responsible for any future leaks.

There is less business this time of year, they are making business for themselves, a high profit one at that.

We had a leak around our solar tube after the new roof went on and had to have the roofers back twice to fix it, but it was done for free (even though the second call out was after six months).

Yes, this is a service we normally offer before hurricane season starts. We have seen just about everything when it comes to damaged or improper reinstallation after a reroof.
I also agree that the roofer should be responsible but we find that often isn't the case. Either because the labor warranty has run out or the problem is discovered during an extreme weather event like a hurricane. Best case it gives you peace of mind that everything was put back correctly and worst case we are able to address an issue before it becomes a problem. |

Roofers know how to shingle around vents and solar tubes. So, it's just a money grab for them.

And how did you grab your money during life that was holier than everyone else?

My guess this is a scam. Solar guys, who did great job for us on several projects, told us they are not responsible once have new roof put on. I would call Solar Guys directly to see if they actually called or if this is scam.
