Default Phillips Scamble

Did anyone else notice that Larry Phillips is "suspending" the Phillips Scramble this year.
See letter in the sports section of the Mar 3, 2008 Daily Sun

It's an open letter (letter format not an article) to everyone from Larry Phillips near the back of todays sport section. Hope this helps.

For those of us not within reach of the Daily Sun, why did he say he is suspending it?? It is a staple....

Sad to see it end. I think they could have still put in on at a much lower key type of event. All the free stuff could have been done away with and the big dinner at night. A fun few days of golf for all particpants and a hot dog or hamburg was all that was needed. Throw in a golf cart or something as a hole-in-one prize maybe. The snowball got out of hand by the handlers and maybe they can rethink this for another year and do it again. It is a much needed and look forward to event each year. Please reconsider what this event really does mean to everyone, especially in these hard times that are coming upon us.

The basic cause, money...... It cost a lot of money to put this event on. The organizers are asking folks to donate to the charities which is a wonderful idea. I just don't believe they will get the response that they would if they had gone on with a much smaller tournament. People understand times are getting tougher and things are going to be getting really bad if something doesn't turn around here soon. But a tournament can be done for a lot less then what they have been spending on this particular one in the past. Maybe someone else can step in and do another one similar to this one. How about "The Villages" having the larges amateur charity tournament in the world? That would make headline news for "The Villages".

great idea boo
what a great way to sell houses...........The Villages could do it for 1/10 of the cost of a commercial that they run on the golf channel........ Every golfer in the country would read about it..........could even have three age brackets .....great idea..........
