I think you are really going to enjoy being a Villager. Even though Wildwood has a fairly high crime rate and Fruitland Park does too, it does not reach into The Villages. There has not been a violent crime in a long, long time. Last one I remember was a domestic dispute when a woman shot her husband. Both were retired LEO's. One other about 2 years before that was because of a young daughter living at home and involved with drugs. Led to murder. 2 violent crimes in a community of about 80,000 in 4 years is not too bad.

It is a far cry from your part of New Mexico. No need for "packing heat" here at all. Basically only crimes around here are a few break-ins when people are gone for the season. There is also speeding and some DUI's.

It is comical to hear some people complain about the bad element of "roving gangs of teens" on the town squares after 9 pm. These are kids staying with Grandma and Grampa for a few weeks in the summer and don't want to go to bed at 9:30.

You are going to adjust mighty quickly and will love it here.

With all due respect there is one statement you made above that I would challange.

According to the latest 10 year figures available at city-data.com the crime rate for Fruitland park is below average. The national average crime index is 319.2 and Fruitland Park has fallen below that mark on each and every year. On the other hand you are correct about Wildwood where the their index has fallen consistantly well above that national mark without exception!

Where you're really on the mark is in that Figmo is "really going to enjoy being a Villager!"

First, I respect the law and hence generally respect those who have the difficult task of its enforcement. However, not all people who complain about being mistreated by the police are wrong. Further there are not too many professions or occupations that do not get there share of criticism, banks, insurance companies , law firms, brokerage firms, numerous manufacturers and even the military armed forces. And for most of them criticism comes with the territory, is unfair but can never be successfuly defended

However, it is unrealistic to think, for instance, that the stealth tactics taken by police enforcement to trap speeders would be looked upon by all as acceptable. But you can never argue this point because "public safety claims' will defeat and hence deflect any reasonable arguments you may have. To wit look at the commentary Chief X received as a result of his original post. Anyone complaining is simply a whiner. You will never hear anyone say that the officer lacked training and/or experience or is just plainly a wise guy. The operative word is "police" which translates into "absolute" and when you are dealing with absolute thinking you can never fairly debate let alone win. That is why an individual cannot plead "no contest" to a speeding ticket which I believe is unconstitutional. You have to either plead guilty or not guilty and if you choose the latter you are forced to court. If you received that ticket in another State it means you have to travel back to that state to defend your position. In some situations if you challenge a ticket and lose you will face some sort of punitive damages.
