I never lived in Ohio but flew in and out of Wright-Patterson AFB several times. I have a good friend in Garfield Heights area of Cleveland that I have visited and have done some HR audits at the Cleveland and Brecksville VA Medical Centers. All in all, a great state.

I love this thread! So many commonalities.
I was born and raised in College Hill which is a 'burb of Cincinnati. Attended UC. My son was born in M'amisburg. Also lived in Worthington, outside of Klumbus. Anybody remember the Pumpkin Festival in Circleville, Oh? Trish, when I first married, my in-laws lived in Bloomfield Hills so we made that drive to MI quite often. I still get goose bumps when you drive down the hill in northern KY to the river and see the Cincy sky line although the cool sign that said, "Welcome To The Queen City has been replaced. I'm a Buckeye who's been a Peach for 30 years and hope to soon be a Frog! |
To my knowledge the pumpkin show in Circleville still rolls on every year. I'm familiar with the hill overlooking Cincy coming in from Kentucky. I got a speeding ticket there many ,many years ago one my trip from Alabama to home on leave when I was in the service. I was thinking when the Ky. trooper came out after me, "Dang, I only had a half mile to the Ohio border and I messed it up!"

My wife and I are from Glandorf, Ohio [ pop. 780 ]. We also lived on Indian Lake for 12 years before moving to Fort Myers Beach for 4 years and then The Villages for 7 years.

O H .............. Remember the Browns club meets every Sunday at the Pub and watch the games.................
|
Moved to The Villages in early 2010, after spending most of my adulthood in the Dayton area, as a member of the AF and subsequently working for the Air Force at WPAFB ( a mile or so from the AF Museum) Enjoying this thread greatly and all of the memories it brings forth. Can I substitute the place of birth of my avatar(Hoppy), near Cambridge, Ohio for my own in neighboring Indiana?

Wondered why "Ohio Buckeye"
Quoting Wikipedia: "Capt. Daniel Davis[3] of the Ohio Company of Associates, under Gen. Rufus Putnam, traversed the wilderness in the spring of 1788, and began the settlement of Ohio. Davis was said to be the second man ashore at Point Harmar, 7 April 1788, and he declared later that he cut the first tree felled by a settler west of the Ohio River, a "buckeye" tree. Additionally, Colonel Ebenezer Sproat, another founder of that same pioneer city of Marietta, had a tall and commanding presence; he greatly impressed the local Indians, who in admiration dubbed him “Hetuck”, meaning eye of the buck deer, or Big Buckeye.[4][5] Subsequently, the word is used as the nickname and colloquial term for people from the state of Ohio[6] and The Ohio State University's sports teams. The Ohio State University adopted "Buckeyes" officially by the school as its nickname in 1950,[7] and came to be applied to any student or graduate of the university." Came very close to being called the "Hetucks" . |
Born in Ohio, I love Ohio, it will always be home to me. My children, grand children, brother, sister's, nieces, most of my relatives still live there. I go back to visit about 4 times a year. My husband has his degree from Columbus College of Art and Design. He worked for the same design firm for 38 years. I love the Columbus Zoo, especially this time of year, the zoo lights are fantastic. I will always call Powell Ohio home.
