Default 5 dead in Brevard home shooting.

Five dead Brevard County home: Five people found dead in Brevard home - Orlando Sentinel

Wonder what can be done stop tragedies like this? This is a developing story so I have no idea what actually happened.

What drives a person though to such lengthes as with when a man or woman decides to take out his family as part of his/her suicide?

It has to be insanity, or rage, or complete inability to ever control urges or nastiness in any form.

Some people call it evil. It may be the inability to feel for others at all. True psychopathy.

Whatever it is, there is too much of it.

Why are you reporting this?

Not sure how this affects life in TV.

Please let us know.

This does not affect life in the Villages?? This looks like a story that will soon go international? It was on all the major Orlando area news programs at great length this noon news run?

It will be in The Villages Daily Sun as well I would guess.

I agree that this will be all over the news and probably in places like New York City, Denver, Los Angeles, London, Berlin, Tokyo, etc.

A very sad story from the details that are coming out so far.

It looked like a murder/suicide when I first got an e-mail from the Orlando Sentinel earlier this morning.

My point in posting this is as many probably know I am very interested in victims' rights. I am especially interested in proactive steps for preventing violence. There is a lot of wisdom here in the Villages, so I wanted to get some ideas about how these kind of tragedies could be prevented???

People cracking due to whatever kind of stresses does not happen often in the Villages thankfully. It does happen though here.

My idea was to get links from public libraries to victims resources as well as to mental health resources. I have worked on this here on TOTV off and on. I have had little or no success with the public libraries though in this regard in Lake, Sumter, and Marion Counties. Instead, I have had to do this work from TOTV.

I bet there is a ton of information on the Internet about theories on violence, without a cop in every kitchen it cannot be stopped. Oh, that won't work either since some cops have done it too.

Actually, I believe that it was a cop's wife who cracked here in the Villages a few years ago. Retired Bergen County detective shot by wife - NorthJersey.com

I am trained as a law librarian so had the illusion that information is power and can prevent some violence from happening.

Why didn't you report on the killings in Orlando and Daytona and Deland and the other places where they have murder/suicides.

I think this should either be moved to the political forum or we need to set up a Taltarzac forum for all of your special threads.

They certainly do not belong on TOTV.

Why would I need a personal forum? I have 7177 posts on TOTV going back almost 5 years. The thread is also not political in nature. This Brevard story about a Mom killing her 4 kids looked like it would become a national and then international story. That's why I started a thread on it. And, it does involve the Villages because of the amount of news in this area that will be on this story.

I know this won't be popular but, the ease of access to guns is alarming to me. This woman was obviously unstable and was able to wreak havoc with a gun that apparently was nearby. I don't want to stir up a hornets nest about the right to bear arms etc., but.......

That's true. But from what I have heard the kids were shot and went to a neighbor's house and then went back home after their Mom called them back. She could have used poison or some other weapon just as easily if she had control over her kids' behavior in this degree. Deputies: Mother shoots four children to death in Brevard home | www.wdbo.com

"Investigators said that earlier in the day, a neighbor was awakened by a knock at the door. The neighbor said that three of the children were there and appeared to have been shot.

The neighbor said Thomas called to them, and they went back to their home." from above wdbo.com link

One of the kids also could have used the gun in self-defense if things went another way.
