Recommendation to allow "P" ranting on ToTV
.
. All us ToVRs have seen or been involved in the various "P" discussions over the years. A Thread starts, then quickly degrades and the Mods need to delete posts then finally the entire Thread. No doubt many folks here simply HAVE TO vent and enter their "P" feelings. Solution - perhaps the programmers could modify ToTV to allow any member to open a "P" Thread, or post anything they want regarding "P" and their views and rants. Thus they are not muzzled, they get their personal feelings and views out, and it's cathartic for them. Now, in order to NOT violate ToTV rules, the key is... NO ONE else sees their posts. No violation and no baiting to others. Kind of like a personal editorial to oneself - or screaming into an empty room. And a cheap Psycho session, sans couch and no meds. For those, who by now are unsure what "P" is>

Why not just an unmoderated forum just for the venters?
Probably become as boring as roundabouts and dog poo. Put on your big boy and girl pants, and go for it!! |

There must be hundreds if not thousands of other web sites that welcome that topic, why TOTV?

We have already been there. ToTV instituted a "political forum" with the premise being you are about to enter a danger zone but you have elected free willed and informed to enter. Didn't last long. It was like giving out free passes to act even more obnoxious. |

OP,
Huh? Why on earth would anyone expect TOTV owners to do such a thing? The owners have no obligation to provide a vomitorium for posters to express political bent. We already have among us, those who have shown up to post in relatively recent times, those who seem to have the sole purpose of spewing propaganda. Don’t kid yourself — such a ridiculous offering from TOTV would attract more of same — whether we could see what they are posting or not. I have been posting on TOTV since almost the beginning. I have seen different versions of attempts to provide a place for politics. It has never worked. It never will. Therapy? Seriously? I don’t think so. Your suggestion would mean that TOTV would become a vehicle for forwards, cut and pastes, whatever method the poster would use to get the “word” out. It would be a stupid business decision for TOTV to allow their name to be associated with whatever anybody feels like writing. You say it would be a private, personal venting place. Do you really believe there would be no seepage? I have noticed that we are not seeing quite a few of our longtime, regular posters who have contributed a lot of interesting, entertaining, and helpful posts in tinges past. If your suggestion were to actually be taken seriously, TOTV would lose more posters who would not want to be associated with the forum anymore. Now, may I give you a positive suggestion. This one actually comes from a historian — a real historian —who says that letters and diaries are valuable sources of history. There is nothing that can compare to a primary source — a view of history written in the moment, in the writer’s own words. Primary sources not only reveal the times. Primary sources also reveal human nature. Did you know that during the 1918 pandemic, lots of people behaved like jackasses? Demanding bars be opened was a popular pastime — hey, they needed their growlers refilled. (If you want a little fun fact this morning, look up the history of how growlers got that name.) Anyway, OP, write a letter, write your own opinion piece, on your own computer. Don’t neglect to print your words. Hard copies can last forever. If you have grandchildren, write a letter to them — even if they are not old enough to read yet, you could start a file for the future. Let them see who Grandpa or Great-Grandpa really was during these historic times. Boomer |

No partisan/political postings on TOTV. They just can't remain civil and on topic.
We established the ("hide-able") Current Events and News Subforum to allow non-political and non-partisan discussion of newsworthy topics with a little more leeway...you see how well that is going??? Thread Closed. Moderator
