Default Lowes & The American Flag

To all Concerned,

Lowe's is now selling American Flag doormats. As the 4th of July is approaching, many stores are trying to increase their profits. Needless to say, the selling of American Flag doormats has many Veterans upset. Veterans feel that they fought for the American Flag, many losing their lives, and many permanently injured for the freedoms that the American Flag represents, yet Lowe's is now selling the American Flag as a doormat, " something to be walked on, and something to wipe your feet on", as one veteran put it. "Are they slapping our faces or what", asked another veteran.

The V.F.W, the American Legion, and several other organizations was immediately contacted. A veteran with 33 years in the U.S. Navy, had gone to Lowe's to buy $300.00 worth of lumber to build a fence, but when he saw the American Flag doormat, he flipped out, made Lowe's take back the lumber and refund his money. Several others walked out of the store.

At the Lowe's in N. Charleston, SC, the manager took all the doormats off of display because of complaints and called Lowe's headquarters to report the consumer's and veterans complaints.

Those who grew up respecting the American Flag, and those who fought to defend it, would never let the American Flag touch the ground, much less use it as a doormat, to walk on or wipe your feet on it!

Most likely these doormats are made in China, but they are distributed by:

Don't you all read prior posts?

CWGUY posted the SNOPES that showed the original post by BOSOXFAN came from 2012 and that is was not true, yet several following posters acted as if they hadn't read anything.

Get upset about something worth worrying about.

This makes me wonder again if school children are taught proper flag handling, folding and etiquette, as we were in the 1960's and 70's. In K-8 school, we always had turns doing Flag Duty.....Raising and lowering it and folding and storing it properly. We also had federal holiday observances at the flag pole if it involved veterans. In high school, various clubs took turns doing flag duty for the month (or some timeframe like that) like National Honor Society, FFA, FHA, etc. I think usually it was the American Legion who did the holiday observances and we learned a LOT that I didn't see our kids learning in school in the 1990s and early 2000's.

Here is a Girl Scout pamphlet on flag protocol, etiquette etc. Were your kids taught this if not in scouting?

http://www.girlscouts-gsci.org/files/Flag_Protocol.pdf

I wonder about it when I see a flag with no lighting on it at night, or if it's drooping in the rain etc.

I didn't read that. OK so I got worked up over nothing. LOL. My heart and mind were in the right place though.

I found the same Snopes.com article as CW GUY. The door mats are not for sale at Lowe's.

Speaking of the 10% discount for veterans, Lowe's will only take your VA card as proof. A buddy of mine went in with his DD214 and they would not accept it. That is totally wrong on their part. I spoke with their manager on duty and she showed me the company policy about accepting the VA card and that the DD214 is accepted only on Memorial Day and Veterans Day for a discount.
