Default Role Models

With so much being written in the media about Justin Beiber and Miley Cyrus, (aka Hanna Montana), who displayed a wholesome image and many young girls looked up to these people. Their image lately, leaves a lot to be desired.

Who do you hope your grandchildren, use for their role models?

Their parents, one set of which are great educators......and the second set who are the type of loving parent every child should be blessed to receive.

Both of our adult kids and their spouses wanted children and took parenting very seriously.......devoting their entire being into raising happy, cherished, healthy kids.......who I might add, are all exceptionally bright , kind and giving children. Parents are the first role models. Not Hollywood stars.

Senior, you took the words right out of my mouth. Too many parents seemingly want everyone else to do their parenting for them. Nature abhors a vacuum and kids will find someone to emulate be it a star, an athlete, or someone on the streets.

IMO., another inherent problem with super star role models is that they are only humans with special gifts. Hollywood history is littered with the stories of stars who never had a chance to be children. Athletes can be overwhelmed with fame and riches. They may not have asked to be regarded as a role model. Just my $ .02.

Our two are blessed with great parents, some awesome teachers too over the years, and a hardworking, warm hearted, responsible soul who loves them dearly, their only grandfather.

If they come close to any of these fine people over the years, I will be so happy. But it kinda looks like they are headed in the right direction.

It is not how we direct our children, it is what we ARE that they will become.

You would be surprised at how many young people are disgusted with the two you mention. I spend my days with 140 teenagers and they are more influenced by their parents and grandparents than anyone else.
On that note, I just lost my father last week and had an uplifting epiphany during my time with my family. All his grandchildren inherited one single trait from him and that was his work ethic. They saw this man work every day under all circumstances. It was comforting knowing that he had such a tremendous effect on his eleven grandchildren who are in turn, passing that legacy on to the next generation.
So, a brief way of answering your question would be.......Us.

My 2 older grandsons just left after visiting us here in TV for the past 5 days. We so enjoyed their company.... and golf too of course. The older grandson turned 16 in December and I wrote him a birthday letter, in the letter I advised him "when seeking role models, look no further then your own home."
I also told him that as unaware as he may be, HE is a role model for his younger brother.

Family is the best role model.

I count my blessings every day, my daughter and son in law have raised 2 wonderful boys. I am grateful.
