There is a thread debating stucco v frame building and once again I was reminded of how fortunate many of us really are.
You know once upon a time people in this nation of ours were just thankful that they could provide themselves with the basics food, water, shelter. Now we are not satisfied unless we have Mc Mansions, brand name clothing expensive sounding water and gourment meals. We see people still suffering from lack of the basics. We witness people who spend most of the day just searching for decent water to drink. I think of this good fortunate and feel somewhat guilty that I am not more appreciative of what I have, and the only real difference between the have and have nots is often their place of birth . Lord thank you for these many gifts. |

I can remember when I went hiked in the mountains around Reno, Nevada and did not bring enough water. Thirst is a real motivator. Also recall stupidly drinking some water from a local lake a really regretting it soon after. This was when I was about 11 or 12. I am very grateful for being here in the Villages after all the problems I had in Palm Harbor, FL. Things are looking up after an incredibly hard journey. |

Thanks, rubicon, for the reality check. I grew up in hard times with barely a pot to pee in and, even though we're not flush with money, like a lot of the privileged/entitled here let on to have, we're very fortunate to have enough to be able to call TV our home and help the kids out when needed.

As the motto says, "less is more".
A friend of mine who is 56 years old sometimes says, "I miss my big house back in NY". I keep reminding her that she won't be jumping out of bed when she is in her 70"s saying, "great, I get to clean this big house". ![]() Staying humble and being thankful what one has, makes one happy, as opposed to always wanting more which is a never ending quest. BTW - She is a happy person.

Gratitude has gotten me through some very low times. I remember my dad loved to say: "I thought I was bad off when I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet".
