Default 'Shocking’: 66% of new coronavirus patients in N.Y. stayed home: Cuomo

ALBANY — The majority of recently hospitalized coronavirus patients in New York are people who have followed the precaution of staying home, Gov. Cuomo said Wednesday.

The governor said it was “shocking" that 66% of new coronavirus hospitalizations are people who are either retired or unemployed and not commuting to work on a regular basis.

I have no idea. Maybe HVAC systems in large apartment buildings or sewage systems?

If you are in a single family home the only way you can get it is if you go to grocery store/pharmacy etc or someone living with you brings it home.

If you look at other data, these people likely live in dense situations, many members to a household, one of them going out to work. These are not people who live one couple to a detached house like in TV going out just for groceries or golf.

Nursing “homes” included in that number? Remember, many people still had to go to work and dragged the virus home to their families. Others completely ignored the restrictions but said they stayed home.

Cuomo said 18% of new cases came from nursing homes, not included in the 66%

Just says they weren't working, not that they stayed home?

Maybe they were infected prior to the lockdown?

Maybe it is a miscalculation just as there have been several others. Wasn't staying home was what they were supposed to be doing?

Seems reasonable that those people who "stayed home" also "went out" for groceries, walks, appointments, etc., as did those they live with.

The Daily News headline is misleading. It's not "66% of new cases," it's 66% of hew hospital admissions."

According to the data, 18% of new cases came from nursing homes, 4% from assisted-living facilities, 2% from congregate-care facilities, 2% were homeless, less than 1% from prisons and 8% were marked as “other." So more than half of the 66% were either in group living, homeless or unknown.

The point of NY (to me) is they waited too long to pay attention. Their ignorance or arrogance kept them from distancing early on. Part of this was a result of the lack of Governor's direction. IF they 66% number is true, they people were already infected by the time they "stayed at home".

It was later determined that these folks had outside people ( caregivers) coming into their homes regularly. They did not disclose this in the 1st news broadcast. The news made it sound like they magically got the virus, and how can that happen. We all know its human to human transfer.

I think you missed the point. Maybe early on (i.e., more than ago), NY was slow to react, but these are new relatively cases; well beyond the accepted 14-day period.

"I think you missed the point." Slow to react, did not social distance. They had human to human contact at some point (or within the spit zone) recently with the thousands and thousand of the infected.

25% of the deaths in NY are from residents of assisted living facilities because Cuomo made them take in COVID-19 patients. 5500+ deaths in these facilities.
