Walmart and Sam's Club to require masks nationwide starting July 20 as COVID-19 cases rise

good - hopefully will avoid more "confrontations" at the stores. Wish All stores start this policy. No mask = no service.

Masks required: Walmart, Sam's Club to require shoppers wear masks

Walmart customers on 441 closest to the hospital seem to be more on board with wearing masks than at some other places I've been to. It's not 100% or even 90% but the majority definitely wear masks. Now if we can get all those mask-wearers to wear them OVER their noses and UNDER their mouths, AND respect the one-way signs on the aisles, things would move a bit more smoothly for everyone.

Meanwhile at Target, it's hit or miss. Some days most of the customers don't wear masks. There is zero social distancing except in the line to the cash register.

I started wearing a mask inside buildings that weren't my own home around 6 weeks ago. Sometimes I forget to bring the mask with me (like if I'm swapping out for a fresh one and forget to put the fresh one in my purse) but even then, I'll tug my shirt up over my mouth and nose while I'm in the building if I REALLY need to get something, and leave as soon as possible.

I don't think any of these businesses that have a large customer base can enforce mandatory masks. Small businesses like the optometrist, boutique, or a dog groomer - they have more of a chance for personal interactions between management and customers. It's a more intimate setting and less likely you'll get some crackpot who decides to shoot the security guard because he wants to come in without a mask (yes, that has already happened).

Even in small businesses, it's risky to mandate it (do a google search on "Karen dentist mask").

The best anyone can really expect is for employees to set the example, to REMIND customers that masks are strongly encouraged, pointing out where they can buy the masks right in the store for the next time they come in, and reminding the customers that they're going down the wrong way on a one-way aisle.

As an employee, I'm not interested in playing mask or aisle police. But I have no problem reminding them that complying with the guidelines is appreciated and encouraged, and thanking my customers who DO comply.

And if you see any actual Karens (not just people who don't comply but people who make a HUGE deal about their refusal to comply) - there's always cell phone cameras and twitter.

Mask mandate will be no more effective than speed limits or stop signs in TV!!!

The tip toeing around whether to make masks mandatory is BS.

Just do it.

No mask, no entry/no service. No exceptions!

Costco mandated masks several weeks ago and they have had great compliance. I really do wish our grocery stores would mandate masks. Will keep out the anti maskers so they can go shop elsewhere. They are not doing their part to slow the spread of this virus and I would prefer not to have to plead with them to do something that is for the good of humanity and their fellow citizens.

Confrontations will be eliminated if the anti maskers are aware of what is expected of them before they arrive at the store. They can go elsewhere where there is no mandate for mask wearing. I don't see any confrontations at doctor's offices or any medical facilities for that matter and they surely mandate mask wearing. Mandates are what is needed to keep the anti maskers out of indoor buildings.

Slow the spread. Wear masks INDOORS when social distancing is not guaranteed. Everyone should do their part!

PS.....GREAT to have you back OBB!

And who is going to stop someone from entering without a mask? There are people right here on this forum who dismiss the urgency and need, refuse to wear masks, reject science, reject the concept of doing something simply because it a) can't hurt and b) might comfort your fellow man.

Who and what army are going to stop someone from saying "you and what army are gonna stop me?" and either going in without one, or taking it off as soon as they get inside the doors?

It is NOT enforceable.

How have medical facilities enforced their mask mandates? Costco has not had a problem either. Every doctor's office or medical facility hubby and I have been to, have 100% compliance. Why would grocery stores be any different?

There are people out there that just want to make a statement and show the world they are an anti masker and basically make a protest for their cause. Just show them the door with two very strong men at their side. You may want to refer to them as "bouncers". That would work! Bars and lounges use them, why not other establishments? Cell phone video of an altercation? That anti masker just may be shown the door by their employer. It has happened!

The ONLY way for mask mandates to be enforceable in any establishment is for the state to deem the mandate. When is that going to happen? Hello Mr. DeSantis!
