Default Mail on hold?

I'll be away for 10 days in July and 2 weeks in August. How do I get the post office to hold my mail?

Go to usps.com, you can put your mail on hold right on line.

Here's the direct link:

Our delivery person prefers you leave the note/form directly with them; I've seen the yellow 'hold mail' forms at some postal stations. If you're at your postal station one day while they are working, ask them what they prefer.

I did the usps.com route one time and it never seemed to get to my delivery person...mail was stacked up.

Either way should work.

We always turn in one of the "yellow hold mail forms" to our postal station if we are going to be away longer than a couple of days. They put it in your box to remind them but we have found they continue to put mail in our box -- stuffing it in---- If it gets to be too much--they will then put it in one of the larger boxes and leave a key in ours so we can pick it up. In our circumstances, it appears our box holds about a week's worth of mail.

Some of the neighbors around here usually ask an neighbor to pick up the mail and hold it for them. I just stick in in a box or a couple of plastic bags and give it to them when they get back.
