The President of the United States has never had the liberty to "muse", think aloud, or make any statement that even suggests that.

That is from the beginning of time...

Any time a President even slips to this, he will be reminded by the press......EVERY President. Every person in that office knows that wahat he says will be broadcast around the world, and taken seriously by different degrees.

Blaming the listener for what the speaker says is very very....well, searching for words since it is very new .

Sometimes you gotta step up....this is not a regular job. The responsibilities for what you say can be very profound.

How does one tell when the leader is "musing" or serious ?

Trump said that maybe disinfectants could somehow be put into the body, the lungs and clean out the lungs. Also, it may be possible to put a UV light into the body somehow to kill the virus. This is indefensible; no other way to put it.

New concept.....blame the listener and reporter, or videographer for what is said by the speaker

I love her but I think I have to agree. She could have spoken up in her usual respectful way and addressed his comments in no uncertain terms. I think she was probably shocked by what she heard and at a loss for words. She looked like she wanted to be anywhere but where she was.

Thanks, rustyP, for posting the video link. It was exactly as I remembered it.

It may speak for an ignorance of medicine, but certainly isn't "indefensible". It was a stupid QUESTION posed to Dr. Birx, NOT a suggestion for treatment. And if you think stupid medical questions are confined to the current POTUS, just go and review the medical and health posts on TOTV. Also, what I consider a stupid question is probably vastly different from other people

History has shown that the very first action taken, when trying to establish absolute control/authority...is to try and eliminate a free press.

Screeching "fake news" (particularly when it's not) and personally attacking reporters for asking tough questions/calling out lies, while avoiding the question(s)...is the first step.

We are there.

I find Dr Birx has more spine then most of us, she just choses to not get into a discussion that would play into the lefts hands. Most of us know that whatever Trump says is almost always candid and stream of thought comes out his mouth. I'm ok with that as I can usually filter that stuff and listen to the docs. Dr Birx has contradicted Trump but does it strategically and softly. I personally believe there is a strong team handling this (under VP Pence), I agree that Governors should be in charge and am appreciateive of all the companies, universities, scientists, small business's and individuals that are contributing to keeping us safe. Now if only we could get all of us doing our part it would really be impactful.

Fact that you remember that should allow you to understand how a sitting President is looked at and how serious his words should be taken.

And you completely skipped context with your examples and that matters.

What does surprise me is that you have thos quotes....I was under the impression that wasnever covered by the media.
Really. Somebody posts a list of what the current POTUS has said that sounds ridiculous, and you don't see the relevance of stupid things and outright lies uttered by a previous POTUS??????

Context???? are you serious??? The first three were statements about health care "reform". The last one was caught on an open mike with the president of Russia.

It's not too late for her and doctor Fauci to decide to stand up together (they already have thousands of other Drs./scientists that will join them)...to speak truth to power.

Finally have the truth.
Some would argue instead for "China News Network." Probably a client of McKinsey & Company. ( I may research that)

I think Dr Birx can’t take on the President publicly and keep her job. But she could have said: “That is not currently feasible or advisable but future research can look into those suggestions.” She was probably taken by surprise.
I also think musings are not a good idea since some people take it personally.

Large fonts are like shouting and thus very annoying to normal people.
